What if...

The Powerball interstate lottery in the U.S. currently has an estimated jackpot of $700 million (paid over 20 years; the immediate cash amount is about $428 million; in either case before taxes).

I generally buy one ticket for any drawing where the jackpot is $100 million or more. I figure the $2 gives me a half-hour or so of entertainment in thinking about what I'd spend the money on, if I were to win. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292,000,000, so... pretty darned unlikely. But fun to think about.

I'd give quite a lot of it away, mostly to various charitable organizations and educational institutions, which I've thought about but am not going to enumerate right now. I'd definitely retire (although I'd probably keep working until my library found someone to replace me, and I'd probably then start doing some volunteer work), and I expect so would my SO, and I'm sure we would move.

And I'd go back to school for the rest of my life. *vbg*

What would YOU do if you were to win that amount of money?

what ifs
