I keep secretly thinking that all the bizarre rhetoric that is being thrown around is a side-effect of terror over the economy. Kind of like birds who get upset and pick all their own feathers out. Hmm. I just tried to continue that analogy in my mind, but I'm not sure that putting each member of congress into a cage with another member of congress-- so that they have company, have someone to groom, and are better socialized to their own kind-- would be legal.

I think that there's probably some truth to the idea that the extremist rhetoric is a reaction to economic uncertainty (and social change, too). But that doesn't make it much easier to cope with, sadly.
