Wireless Stupidity

My Linksys' wireless doesn't like Macs and I'm trying to sneak around it. So far I've been reading long and helpful things all over the net but none of them seem quite right. My mom tried to access the wi fi with her iPod Touch and even with the right password wasn't let on, the_croupier couldn't get on with his Mac yet PCs connect ( Read more... )

What is your exact Linksys model? I have a Linksys router and I *knocks wood* haven't had any issues getting the two of them to communicate.

You may have to go into your router settings to muck around with things, but honestly Linksys routers shooooould be all-computer compatible.

WRT54G2 and I tried setting up a whole new connection with the set up disc but that didn't work.

When I enter the correct password for the airport, it goes nope, you're wrong while the PC is connected just fine on wireless.

Its just odd.

I have no advice but I do have sympathy as I have precisely the opposite problem right now -- I can't connect my Linux system to a Mac router! Boo. Router troubles are frustrating. I hope yours is solved quickly.

They are but thankfully I have an extra ethernet cord so I can have access of a sort. Good luck with yours and I'm glad you're in a place now.

Try downgrading your router's security level. You don't need WPA or WPA2, really, try to set the router back to a 13 character WEP key and try again. WEP works more reliably, and is still safe. It's not as if you were the top-secret National Agency for Secret Conspiracies or something...

I'm not sure I know how to do that. Would you be willing to walk me through it tomorrow when I'm at home?

You need to get into the setup of your router; you best do that via a LAN cable, because afterwards, the connection will otherwise be gone for a moment, which is scary.

I know I find it too scary.

Do you have a LAN cable to plug your computer physically into the router? If not, you need to get one before you can even start.

Yes, I do, at least I think I do. Currently my Mac is plugged directly into the router. I've set up routers before but its been a bit.

The last thing I set up was my wireless and that was last year I think, the modem hasn't been touched since I moved in.
