All my sewing patterns say make your own bias tape, it'll match better and you'll be happier in the long run. I haven't tried quilting yet.

Oh! I think the patterns I've made with bias are all from people's "this is dead easy honest" range so perhaps don't suggest it for that reason?

I do see why quilters do it, it given you much more control over what your binding looks like, and you can have double-thickness binding (which is not an item of commerce). But faff! and it always seems like such a wasteful use of the available fabric.

Yes, it's sort of easer if you're making a circle skirt or something else which has lots of thing diagonal scraps.

Making bias binding isn't that hard, but I must confess that I don't bother making it for quilts: I just use a strip of fabric!

I would have cheated with this one and used shop-bought bias, to be honest, given that the binding here is just for neatness and doesn't need to wear well. But I didn't have anything in vaguely the right colour...
