I wonder how many people's online environment matches their real life. The probability is quite high (well the people I know anyway) that they are close to the way they come across online ( Read more... )

"I'm actually quiet, ill at ease to talk about intellectual topics, and silly more often than not. I'm totally not sarcastic, and am quite gullible..." That is in fact really surprising. I would never have guessed it.

Well I can totally relate. I only have a few friends around here that I would either completely confide in or would really try to relate to with my interests.

I think I'm the sort of what you see is what you get sort of online person. And since LJ is where I reveal the essence of my persona, I look at my real life interactions with my LJ tribe as a barometer of how I am and how I see them. Of the ones I have met or chatted with on the phone, they have been exactly like I thought they would be. But of course, that's because we have come to know each other over the years and feel comfy with the whole human processing (or at least to a certain degree comfy).

I think there are 2 schools of social networking... the "my dick is bigger than yours" school where people strive to have the bigeest friends list on their social network and the "I'm here to develop relationships" school where you have a few people who yuo interact with, but those few are getting your best. And I'm more than happy to be in the latter school.

oh i like WYSIWYG people. i am totally WYSIWYG too, it's just that for some reason, people come to certain conclusions about me. it's probably because of my stubborn refusal to use LOL that got me in to so much trouble.

not sure if you remember my LJ entries during the Eisenhower years, but it got to the point where i literally had to say "I WAS JOKING" on the comment section of each entry.

and yes, i like to meditate on intellectual ideas. i just don't like inflicting on others at social gatherings.

i have to say, whenever i see someone with a million friends, i think twice about friending them back. with the exception of people living outside the u.s., i recently wiped out all the friends on facebook i haven't met in person. (LJ people got legacy passes)

it doesn't look impressive to have so few friends, but hey, at least they are "real" friends.
