Careful Steps

This week went fast. It also went reasonably well, which kind of scares me. Things just don't seem right when I think, "Hey, today was a good day." If I think that I've had consecutive good days, then I really start to worry. I don't know why, but I'm afraid that having good days will result in a plane crashing directly on top of me, or a papercut ( Read more... )

So when you conduct this band.... after the piece is done, do you immediately walk off stage, wait back there a minute or so, and then strut back out to be greeted by thunderous applause? I never understood why conductors did that.

I still don't know the reason why they do it, but it's mainly because it has been a tradition for a very, very long time. How it started, I don't know. I could ask for you.
And no I don't, I just say thanks and walk back to my section. They all clap out of pity.

Pity claps rule, almost as much as slow claps. You should get them to slow clap for you.
