I'm rather annoyed right now. My mother and I went to see "The Help" at our local theater. It was a good movie and I had a nice time with her. This entry however is about something that happened before we went into the theater

Umm. I don't know where he's getting his facts, but there have been studies that show that *slighty* overweight people (BMI of 25-30) actually live longer than those in the 'normal' range. If something bad happens, their body has something to pull from other than muscle tissue to repair itself.

Personally I think it's as bad as racism. People make snap judgments based on appearance. Not everyone with a weight problem eats like crazy. It's what's causing the prevalence in eating disorders in women. Because it's okay for us to try to manage everyone else's waist line.
I have a grandfather that's the exact.same.way. I think it's something with that particular generation--their brain to mouth filter being broken and commenting on things that, quite honestly, isn't any of their business because they read some random health study at the doctor's office and think it is the end all tru!fax of everything and don't take into consideration there is more at play than eating habits. He is constantly on my husband to lose weight but, the hubby has a health condition that makes it REALLY hard for him to lose weight (though we did discover that a daily iodine supplement helped tremendously when we talked to someone that actually wanted to take time to discover he has that condition).
What an asshole. He seems to assume that you and your mother have never read a newspaper, because it's pretty much impossible to escape stories about health effects of extra weight. (Though as the previous comment points out, the reality is a lot more complex than more fat=less health. Different people have different optimal weights. Regardless, it's none of a stranger's business.)
