Multi-tasking -- Booking Through Thursday

Today's Booking Through Thursday question is:

Do you multi-task when you read? Do other things like stirring things on the stove, brushing your teeth, watching television, knitting, walking, et cetera?

Or is it just me, and you sit and do nothing but focus on what you’re reading?

(Or, if you do both, why, when, and which do you prefer?)I want ( Read more... )

fun stuff, my favorite books, reading, me, novels, books, meme, booking through thursday

I totally do! I put my book down only when absolutely forced to and definitely read while teeth brushing/bathing/eating/walking. So does Lauren :-)

When I read, I only read. And I can read through a bomb going off and not hear it. Can't tell you the numbers of dinners I've burned because I was reading.

You too, huh? I seriously think I'm addicted. I remember an AA survey that said one sign of an addiction is if it interferes with other parts of your life. Like, oh say, staying up so late reading that I have trouble getting up for work in the morning, feeling so "hung over" I'm seriously tempted to call in, and then fighting not to doze off at my desk. I have to have a book with me all the time for while I'm doing laundry, cooking, during TV commercial breaks, breaks at work, and anytime I'm waiting for something else (like my turn in line, a doctor, a flight, etc.) I read ink and paper books when I'm on the go or multitasking, then in the evenings or on weekends, I'm at the computer reading fanfic. I get upset with myself for not doing anything else, like working on unfinished stories or sewing projects, but not upset enough to do much about it.

Do you suffer withdrawal symptoms when you work on NaNo?

OH my gosh, I know just what you mean, I do the same things -- I'd read in the SHOWER, if it wouldn't get my books wet!

I like the coworker that I eat lunch with everyday, but honestly, I look forward to her vacation days, because then I can read while I eat lunch instead of talking.

And yes, I absolutely go through reading withdrawal during NaNo. It never fails, every November, at least a couple of books that I've been waiting for *forever* come in for me at the library. Of course I go and pick them up, but then I'm torn -- if I'm writing, I wish that I was reading, and when I'm reading, I feel guilty for not writing!

Hee, back in my schoolgirl years, I used to read while I walked... my friends said they were sure I was going to hit a telephone pole or something, but I never did :)
