Sorry for the offtop! Well... this isn't totally offtop as long as it deals with Alan, but i really want to ask you something VERY MUCH!
I just found the following passage on one of Alan's Russian fansites. I'll try to translate the lines that caught my eye:
"... there were also such funny things as Christmas play in which Alan played a SQUIRREL and sang songs like "I can't live without my porridge"...."
So is THAT why you're talking about the squirrel? Then the chances that he'll mention it once are quite high, supposed he's asked about his funniest stage experience... :D
This post explains why we are always talking about squirrels. It sounds as if you have read that, I think.
But WOW, what a discovery, Liana! Can you provide a little more detail about the context of what the Russian site was talking about this squirrel play? I am wondering if this is something that was mentioned in the unauthorized autobigraphy? If you can find out any more information about where the Russian fans had seen this mentioned, so we can research, that would be great!
But yes, that gives us an actual strategy for a way to get AR to mention the squirrels!
Actually, this short bit is all i could find. I did a search in Russian sites and came across lots of sites with Alan Rickman's biography, and all of them mention this very Christmas play which took place in 1974 and in which he played a squirrel singing some weird songs. Only some sites call it an exciting experience, and others - a diagusting one... No idea whether it was mentioned in the Unauthorized Biography, but i'll find it soon, because i started reading it today, so if i find anything else, i'll tell you!
Oh and i also did a search "Alan squirrel" in Google and found some interesting things like this interview with such an extract: Rickman spent four years working the length and breadth of England in repertory before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1979. During those journeyman years, in addition to suffering the embarrassment of playing a squirrel in a Christmas pantomime and having to sing "She's Pooped Without Her Porridge," he appeared in a wide range of rigorous roles, in such plays as Jarry's Ubu Rex and
( ... )
Wow, those searches turn up some interesting info. I'm not sure anyone is reading this comment thread anymore, though. Would you mind if I posted a new entry about this? I will credit you for digging up these facts! let me know if that is OK.
