I actually don't find anything wrong with the school sending the letter (esp if they actually sent it in the mail and didn't give it directly to the student). Some parents do need that wake up call to finally do something to help their child. I wish schools had done that when I was younger. I instead had to hear it from the doctor every time I went for a checkup.

I think the sad part of the story is how the father handled it All for the letter, though.

Yeah, I mean...like I told my sister, the parents could have EEEEASILY just been like "hey! how about we go play some basketball?" or "Hey! Let's go to the park!" or like take swim lessons WITH them, because the chances are that the parents could use some more activity, too! Help them learn how fun it is to run, or play volleyball or soccer!

Also! I also don't have a huge problem with the school informing the parents; but I feel that the way they informed them could have been better. Instead of giving the letter to the child, mail rather than give it to take home with the child. That way, the parents could read it and without the child knowing that the school said the kids are overweight, they can just start immediately implementing new lifestyle changes for the whole family.
