It depends on which genre would interest you. There are sci-fi romances, fantasy romances, historical romances, vampire/werewolf/greek god romances ect.. there are also huge epic romances that bookstores often have a difficult time placing like Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Technically it's a romance but, the scope and breadth of the series sometimes lands it in regular historical fiction categories.

Some of my personal favorites are: Heather and Velvet by Teresa Medeiros, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, Hazard by Jo Beverly, and even though they are a bit silly I kind of fell in love with the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon it's a HUGE series so I'll just say that my favorites are probably Night Pleasures and Acheron though her books were also recently turned into manga, the first being Dark Hunters Vol. 1 which covers Night Pleasures. I will also read just about anything by Julia Quinn though, her earlier books are much better than her newer work.

I actually decided to go the historical romance route. Set in early 17th century Venice, complete with a rescue from a convent.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what I was thinking either.
