Title: His Favourite Four-Letter F-Words Author: cathedralcarver Pairing: John/Sherlock Rating: T Word count: 3,500 Warnings: All three episodes, and maybe next season, too.
Thank you! I love the words you chose, because honestly, that's always what I strive for in my writing, especially of these two: quiet and real. Thanks so much <3
Oh I loved this. It moved so fluidly between past and present without being choppy or confusing or even muddling the mood of it. And, given the format, the story could have devolved into summary and lack the requisite emotional punch, but somehow you managed to pull off a truthful impact in each little rendered scened (though I admit - the greedy, ravenous reader in me wishes each scene were its own full story). Loved the comfort/desperation binary in the elderly scenes, loved John's musing on the differences between his body and Sherlock's, loved the final scene with Sherlock's total fear of John's leaving, especially in comparison to his fear and helplessness at John's imminent death. A lovely, accomplished story.
And this line: "Fear that the next dead body that turns up might be someone John can’t live without." - Among many that stuck out to me, this was particularly affecting. Thanks for a great read.
Guh...this review! Kind of made me teary on this very bleak and grey Sunday morning. Haven't even had my tea yet -- maybe that's the problem! I originally wrote this linearly, ending with John's death, which, while fine (Translation: NOT REALLY FINE AT ALL), it just seemed so traditional to me. So, I went back and starting mixing everything up, hoping it didn't make the progression of their relationship too discordant or confusing to the reader. A review like this one makes me realize how very worthwhile it was :) I thank you so very much for providing me with such detailed feedback -- it means so much. I posted this thing at 2 a.m., so bleary-eyed I could barely see the keys, but it was one of those stories I just couldn't stop writing, and once it was written, I just had to send it off into the fanfic realm and be done with it.
Anyway, thank you again. This is wonderful, and has made my morning brighter <3
