We'll always have Oscar

Mar 03, 2004 10:02

I have a feeling that I am not the only person in the fandom who is a bit melancholy in the wake of Sunday's Oscar sweep. The "is that all there is?" and "so, now what?" aftermath of a glorious ride. It can't be over! Where are the accolades for the actors? Where is the worship that Elwood deserves? Heck, I saw a photo on Yahoo! news about the ( Read more... )

I'm guilty of finding the show a bit... eh. Even the Katharine Hepburn and Gregory Peck tributes left me untouched, which is bizarre when you consider my devotion to them.

I adored the hobbit lads: will they ever be allowed to travel solo? :-D I hope not. They belong together.

The only reason I found the show so thrilling was the gold statues finally being lavished upon LOTR after the two-year span of being stiffed. That, and the hobbit boys. It was fantastic to see them all there together! Plus, I like Billy Crystal.

M & C picked up two awards, right? Cinematography (richly deserved) and sound editing, I think? That's another film that deserved some acting nominations. Paul Bettany, your heartthrob, and that adorable little Max Pirkis, who I look forward to seeing in future films.

Billy Crystal was hilarious, as ever. Loved the opening sequence. :-D

Yep, two prezzies for Master and Commander. Don't worry about Bettany's mantelpiece: he's scooped up a gracious plenty for this part, the dear. The BAFTAs and whatnot are no doubt artfully arranged around his wife's Oscar.

Pirkis, and baby Elwood: whenever I see little kids acting, and doing it really well, I'm astounded.

They actually said he was from New Zealand?? Sheesh people do your research!

I'm almost suprised they didn't say he was from Enlgand from his Frodo accent!

It's sad but true. I followed a link at TORn to Yahoo! and flipped through about 200 pics of the Independent Spirit awards to find...THAT.

Do I know you from somewhere in cyberspace, teresa? I'm Goldenberry at Khazad-Dum. If that means anything to you!

It is strange that people aren't thrilled to see history as it happens, hmmmm? In 30 years, film students will be trying to pick apart the LotR movies, trying to understand what made them so great. But for now, the celebrity-watchers and the film snobs just don't seem to get it. *shrugs*

Yes, only those of us who possess superior intellect and excellent taste in films, books and actors can truly appreciate this historic achievement. ;-)

:^D What amazes me is that the Academy suddenly seems to have developed superior intellect and excellent taste in films, after that ABM debacle. ;^) Suddenly, now that they agree with me, I'm willing to consider their opinion relevant. ;^D

That, and they have to stop inviting Julia Roberts. Then I'll take the Academy seriously. :-p

Nice try, with the 11 Oscars and such, but there Julia still was. So close to perfection, and yet...
