Castle didn’t tick into her life.

While some men whispered into Beckett’s time, stealing moments, wasting minutes, Richard Castle fobbed days. She was aware of how much he’d demand from the second he entered the precinct, so Kate ensured she kept the Beckett trinity close to her vest in an attempt to keep him at a distance.

This was pure genius. The genius did continue, but I figured I'd stop before I quoted everything. You've worked in the metaphor so subtly. It's brilliant. The way you analyse each relationship within it is ... I am quite speechless.

My one question (and this is such a nitpick, so feel free to slap me) is, I'm wondering about the timeline of the shower bit? Because after the Dunn case, Beckett was staying with Castle, at least temporarily. (I know we don't see her at the loft more than once, but obviously finding an apartment does take time... anyway. I can see it working, but I was just interested to know if you'd thought about it. Is it meant to happen before the explosion? Thus before pancakes ( ... )

I saw the shower bit as the scene immeddiately preceding the explosion - the looooong shower that was interrupted by Castle's call to warn her that the dead guy was a patsy. So it happened after pancakes and before she was living with him at the loft - when they thought the case was closed, because they had fallen for Dunn's fake murderer plan.

Of course, I could be wrong, LOL.

Your recollection of the time line matches mine. There were two breakfast bits in that two-parter: one at her (about to be blown up) apartment before they figured out who (they thought) was the bad-guy. Castle was being her "protector" and his production of pancakes were interrupted by the finding of a body on her doorstep. The second one was at the loft, post explosion where Beckett made eggs and bacon and they were interrupted by a call about Shaw being missing.

That's exactly it! A dual-breakfast situation. It's thrown me out of kilter.

BTW, do you know the latest spoilers? Don't bother searching for them if you don't, but I reckon the Captain will be a bright light of S4

Hey Buzz! Thanks for this, glad you love the exploration because it's SO made up, I was wondering if it kept in character enough.

Howevs, it's been a fun project.

Thanks for reading and happy weekend!

Had it fixed? Her heart? The remains of her life? The black hole that had once comprised her former apartment?

Reading this and seeing the symbolism of the watch in a new light, makes this simple action by Castle so profound. And so disconcerting to Beckett.

Still loving this and so very glad to see an update.

Hugs,

A.

Thanks hon. Glad it's working to time ... oh, puns. There is never enough in moi life.

I think when Castle fixed the watch, there was a TURN. I rewatched that scene and Beckett is actually a bit teary, and Castle goes straight into joking mode. I have wondered (as I've written this) how much Will knew of her mother's death (and her mother and father's jewellery) compared, say, to Josh-bo?

Interesting.

Obviously, I'm overthinking, *g*

Fangs again. HOw's your writing goin'? Maybe your busy with something we know down here as Roil loife.

The pervasive use of watch words is fascinating (though i must say a reference to quartz in the context of an Omega is almost sacrilege).

The state of the watch and who is allowed to get it fixed as a metaphor for her engagement with the boy in question is pure genius. Broken crystal, broken relationship; rescued and fixed watch - a new beginning.

My personal favourite here in the way of thoughts is Her Castle Itch. Starting to irritate her so much, she even capitalized it in her mind as homage to its annoyance factor.

Just as she was contemplating a more tactile form of stimulation, she thought she heard the peep of her cell. She killed the water, found her phone and stopped herself rolling her eyes when she saw the caller ID, hesitating a moment to wonder if he knew exactly what she was thinking a minute ago.

Here's to some scratching of that itch in S4!

LOL. I know! I love anything that's sacrilege. Glad that one worked for ya!

Hello there, and thanks. Was thinking a bit about Will and her r'ship and whether he would have a more 'blokey' attitude to things like her watch and stuff. Castle wouldn't let that go, coz he has to know everything. I wanted the fixing to reflect where she was at that time, with so many of her personal objects 'broken', maybe she was a bit too.

It's been a good, mind-stretching exercise, so thanks for reading along and adding your thoughts. I hope we get some scratching in S4! Otherwise I may get hives.

Have a good weekend.

Because her life, it was bizarre. Castle sat in the middle of it, on an island surrounded by a moat, and Kate was starting to realize that she could become part of that fortress if she could bring down her own walls.

I love this line. I love the whole thing, but I especially love this line. It perfectly encapsulates Kate's constant internal dilemma.

The symbolism of who fixed the watch for her was awesome. Will asks to do it without really realizing its importance to her, while Castle already knows its importance so he doesn't even think to ask, just has it fixed, because he knows that's what she needs.

Looking forward to the next part!

Thanks very much for the lovely words. I wondered whether Will would be privy to the meaningfulness of her jewellry, and decided that perhaps he wouldn't be due to (perhaps) being more accepting of her armoury than Castle.

Castle just needs to dig deeper all the time where Beckett is concerned.

Glad the fixing thing worked. Was trying to reflect the idea that her environment was broken, not just the watch, cracks were starting to show, etc.

Thanks again. Enjoy your Friesday.
