Deb, this is ... Just ... Wow. Where do I even begin?
Okay, anyone who has lost a pet can connect with this scene. But you did so something else: you made it real. Honestly, I'm getting a little teary. And not just because of what happens in the fic.
You did so much without drawing a single face, a single expression. The beautiful setting, the ashes swirling into the air, SAM'S HAIR, Dean's thigh--dammit, he's got nice thighs--and mmmm, what you did with Sam's body! The crazy shoulder-to-hip ratio and that slice of skin showing ... can we just stare at that for a minute?
Okay, better now!
There's such peace and brotherhood here. I'm so glad you picked this scene. Hell, I'd have been ecstatic with ANY illustration from you! But this bit especially. It's really special, seeing one's words made visual.
Thank you, Deb. THANK YOU. It's better than perfect! *hugs with all the gumption of a koala in a eucalyptus tree!*
Aww, bb, nope, thank YOU for writing that lovely story! (And thank you for trusting in me enough to actually bid on me.)
There were faces in the first few drafts, but the boys kept smacking my hand every time I tried to draw features, so I gave in and did what their bidding. :) And so, we have Sam's tasty bod and Dean's biteable thighs. I was nervous about this this piece, about effectively capturing what was on the page (because what's on the page is glorious), so I am truly happy that you approve! ♥
This is just gorgeous! I love Sam's hair! And that little gap of skin above his jeans! And his legs. And the hip tilt. Dean's thighs are lovely too. And you really can feel the breeze in this illustration. Beautiful!
And a lovely new story for me to discover because I hadn't read that one before! :)
I love their relaxed poses, and Sam's hair blown by the wind, and Dean's hand lifted to block the sun so that his eyes could trace the ash carried into the distant mountain, very hopeful.
Thank you! I'm happy you think all the little parts work and come together for that feeling of hope (in Sam's case, hope and renewal.) If you haven't already done so, DO read Q's fic -- it's lovely!
