Well, for the record, he's no longer with the group and GP thinks he's a sell out. So I don't really agree with GP themselves, just the guy who founded it.

By the way, completely apropos of nothing, look at the first bullet in the Notes section of the Battlestar Wiki article on Humanoid Cylons. I believe this may affect some of your theories.

I love how "lessening our dependence on foreign oil (currently trading at $124 a barrel and likely to hit $200 a barrel in five years)" is continually recast as "throwing our economy in the toilet".

Oil is the 20th century. There is no feasible way to maintain a US economy based on $2 a gallon gasoline in the current climate. None. So, global warming or not, now is the time to start thinking about, hmm, let's see... "alternatives"? Perhaps? Or maybe the best time was 30 years ago, before oil hit record and sustainable highs. I dunno, nobody ever accused me of having all the sense of a cato institute fellow...
