Information Retrieval Failure

Isn't it annoying when you can't remember a word? I've been sitting here for ages trying to remember a word. It's on the tip of my tongue, I'm fairly sure what letter it begins with, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is. It's not an easy word to find a synoym for, so the thesaurus is no use - I've already tried it. I could spend all ( Read more... )

Oho-- we LD teachers have a name for that... but I can't remember what it is... :D

No, it's a nominal recall problem, and I don't associate it with age at all because I've done it all my life, occasionally.

I do have kids who make it an art form, though.

"Ms Stein, Rodney hit me with that thing there, whatever it is (book) so I punched him in his whatchamacallems." I cannot send these kids on an errand to borrow anything from another teacher, because the minute they try to say what it is I want, they can't produce the word. Rodney (the same Rodney.) went on such an errand, and rather than try to ask for Ms Evans's scissors, he just went in without a word and took them off her desk.

It's an exciting life.

I think that Cas should follow the example of those kids and get super technical on the readers and call it the "harthorn thingy". I know, I know: pretty hardcore, but sometimes one has to go balls out.
