Those guys will probably end up on the no-fly list. :P But yeah, the sheeple have had the OMG ONOZ PANIC mentality shoved down their throat for so long the difference is stark. It didn't really start with 9/11, either. Fear-based news and marketing has been going on since at least the 1980s. We're raising entire generations of kids so fucking coddled and used to constant surveillance and imposition of "authority" that given another 20 years or so, there'll be no resistance to shit like the Patriot Act, etc. And there lies the road to secret police, "disappearances," and dictatorship.

Thanks for the tip about the Spain program. I'm graduating this Spring and I totally support your decision to become an expat for a while (and maybe longer).. myself, though, unless something drastic changes I'm gonna be sticking around in PDX. Regardless of the handbasket we're all traveling in. :P

Thanks for the post, I'm glad you expressed your thoughts over it. I read a couple of articles and I was just boggling at how stupid everyone was being about it. Then when the authorities can't admit they made a mistake they blame it someone else.

The blogosphere (ugh) is wetting itself over this bullshit. Security expert Bruce Schneier posted on it, as I knew he would.

Seems like everybody EXCEPT the old media (particularly Fox) and the Boston officials with egg all over their face thinks the reaction was mind-blowingly stupid.

I had to see what you had to say since I saw your icon in khelair's comments.

You hit a very good point about freaking out over an animated two dimensional character from the moon that had been there how long? I blame it on the 9/11. It's easy, I use it as an excuse every time I lose my keys also.

I have to say I can't get enough of the icon, and believe you me...I will never forget!
