I'm no expert but have a look at the wiki link. Not sure how recent it is. Apparently plasma will also heat your house a lot quicker - handy in winter not so handy in summer. I'd really double check Sony's claims.

we bought our plasma 3 years ago and it was the best one we could afford. I would agree that in summer it heats that back room. Also take a look at the connection from your DVD to your TV (whatever type you get) make sure that it is optical. We ahve optical from our digital set top hard drive box thingy to the plasma, but not from the DVD, and you can notice it ... but we are ok wtih it. We watch TV shows through our laptop, so they are always a bit grainy, but ok for downloads. Have you checked out choice web site? I'll email you a password for it.

The recent theory is for a smaller size TV get an LCD...for a larger one (above 40" I think) get a plasma. With a plasma you get a sharper clearer pic and the real test is the black. You don't get a true black with an LCD and if you watch a lot of dark movies (in colour not content) it is easier to see the things don't blur. There can also be a lag time in action movies. Of course HD is a must now and get ????. I won't say don't go to Harvey Norman...but play them all off one another. We got ours from JB and worked the guy down when we said we had to keep looking...ah the power ( ... )

I don't have either type not counting LCD computer monitor) but from my perusings at JB the Plasma is a far better picture, the LCD's often pixilate in the fiddly bits. It's worth mentioning that the Cathode Ray Tube is still better and cheaper than either, it's only disadvantage is that it's bulkier and heavier. If you're old TV is big and still works with modern doodads I'd spend the cash at Haighs instead or on macho gear for George's new image.

I agree with Karen and Michael. We have a 52inch plasma. We got that one because we watch a lot of action flicks. The plasma is sharper etc than a LCD. Regarding watching stuff from your computer, get the thinging that H and M have. We were told to have a viewing area of 2.5 to 3 meters for best results. We got our 52 inch, 5.1 wireless surround sound and they come and connect it up for you all for $5000.00 from JB. That was 2 years ago.
