Meta ships second part

Nov 20, 2007 15:39

This was interesting! I have a flist full of slashers, which are all my oldest friends, but they seem to have vanished in the thin air and I got very compelling comments by  friends who have incommon they don't think slash, or most of them doesn't.

Instead of replying to each of your long and lovely POV, I prefer to write a second part, in which i'm ( Read more... )

fandom, tv shows, danny and martin

I do stick to canon about the personalities, that is if Ziva (to link to meredith's own entry) doesn't cry, I won't make her cry all the time. I don't stick to canon because if canon says that Danny in S5 dates Elena (Ugh!) I DO NOT hook them up in my mind.

That's because to you, and to me as well, canon is about personality - what the character would or would not do in real life. In the case of Danny and Elena, it is not that you are ignoring canon. It's that the writers got canon so wrong it hurts and had their characters do something so egregiously OOC that we, as fans, are allowed to consider it not canon. I mean, HONESTLY! If the writers are going to add a Mary Sue to the show like some 12-year-old fanfic writer than we can certainly treat their choices as those of a fan writer and disregard them.

*hops off her soapbox*

And no I'm not still bitter over the destruction of my show, thank you very much. =P

I was going to quote something, but then I figured that I would basically be quoting your entire post, which would be rather pointless, so, I'll just jump right in...

Thank you. Ever since carrieross and I started discussing this over on a post on my LJ, I have been trying to reconcile my apparent hypocrisy. Whenever I see posts bashing NCIS seasons 3+ and the latest season of Supernatural, I wonder how I can justify not liking Elena and the most recent episodes of WaT. However, I apparently am like you and Ross and personality is supreme. Thus, the addition of a strong character who fills a void and has a separate, distinct personality (Ziva) is a good thing to me, while the addition of a weak, Mary Sue character whose only purpose seems to be to have a relationship with another character (Elena) is a bad thing to me. I swear that I tried to like Elena; it just didn't work.

Elena has now become fanon to me rather than canon, and I can feel justified in ignoring her without any guilty feelings. Thanks so much! *grin*

I agree with you 100%. Although I should say I did always think that putting Ziva in the same antagonistic relationship with Tony that Kate had with him was a little close for comfort. Aside from that however, I think she is a good and solid addition to the show. But that's not the point, is it?

I am curious however on your opinions of this season of Supernatural as it relates to this topic. The show is my newest obssession (I devoured the first two seasons over the summer and feel completely head over heels for one Dean Winchester) and have been feeling... something else with this season. I don't have many friends (in RL or LJ) that watch it and I wasn't sure whether it was just that watching week to week has a different momentum or there was a change.

I see that you edited out the line about heading over to my LJ to check out what I felt about SPN. I don't comment about SPN in my journal, but instead comment at my friends' posts about it. (When I comment at all, as some of my sort-of friends are really hating this season, and I don't know them well enough to vehemently disagree with them.) I have found that by the time I've watched it and am ready to discuss, posts are already up and it's just easier to comment where I know people care rather than making a post that people who might not care could have to read ( ... )

It's funny. Not that long ago (a couple of years maybe?) the majority of my fandom loves would have been male. Then I added a few more females into the mix, and it is about equal at the moment. (And I realized in my earlier list that I forgot Sawyer. How the heck do I forget Sawyer?) Although, my shippery-ness has also increased in the last few years as well, so I don't know if that is connected. (I'm guessing it is more that I am now more invested in more shows, so I have more character loves and have more ships ( ... )

I re-explore canon. Example: Elena and Danny had stuff going on in S5 (trying hard not to spoil you). I know it, I can't ignore it completely when writing, unless I don't set a story in AU or in the past, like before Showdown. But I can re-write it. Last year I was just doing it when my father fell ill and I had to stop all kinds of fun activities. Now I'm thinking of taking that half story back and finish it. It's about the true S5 under the eyes of a slasher. Elena, Danny, Martin: the true story. So, canon swallowed by fanon ( ... )

Second POVS... The only tv male-female slash i support was Mulder and Scully. They had a perfect balance i think and they were truely madly deeply romantic. But I admit I have some prejudices for tv loves ,it is because of when i was a child my mum was always watching with me soap operas, that awful love stories hehehehe... So i agree it is up to the writers , how they write the realationship is very important.
Hmm i am thinking now , the first/only male-male slash that i am interested deeply is Danny and Martin. I remember i like Doug and Mark's relationship a lot but i never thought the love possibilty between them. Well i also liked the Xena-Gabriel(female-female) friendship but never thought they should have more. I just cared how they had a good chemistry. So yeah, Danny and Martin is a turning point for me.And i think the internet is very important here because until WAT i wasn't an active internet user like now.

I had never thought about romanitc/sexual relationships before Danny and Martin and me discovering that side of fandoms on the web. So, like you, Doug and Mark as great friends and... like your mum, some soaps and telenovelas. I used to watch Bold and beautiful and several Brazilian novelas. I need to add... I loved the novelas. I still think that some of them were written really well. I wasn't a shipper, because it's not in my DNA, but I did enjoy some of those love stories, LOL.

Hey, before waT and Danny I had never typed a word on the web, let alone all the technical things I learned since then.
