I've had my prompt for the d/g ficexchange for a week and the outlook is good.  I have the first chapter written, and it already looks like it's going to be another monster...15,000 words, maybe?  I'm at 2000 words and I'm 3/4 of the way through the exposition.  I'm actually researching stuff that already exists rather than making crap up, so that' ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. For what it's worth, I think you're handling it pretty well. It might be worth making some sort of overture--something like telling your friend that you miss him or her. That way, the person at least knows how you feel. On the other hand, you might end up getting, "If you don't know what's wrong, I'm not going to tell you!", but at least then you would at least have some sense of what went wrong. I don't know. Whatever you do, I hope your friend comes to his or her senses.

I didn't sign up for the fic exchange because I do not write well under pressure, and the stress wouldn't be worth it. Though I am very much looking forward to reading all of the stories, including yours! I hope it ends up really long and really good!

I'm beginning to find that I work better when there's a deadline. It forces me to outline and have structure. I even dragged out the Dramatic Structure outline (that I teach in playwrighting) and have used that this go round. Some people say that it sucks all the joy out of creativity, but I say it's just smart writing... to have a direction and a stop date. It works for me!

*happy dance* Yay for another Perse fic! Can't wait to see your (and everyone else's) fics! Although with the amount of time that I do have, goodness knows when I'll actually be able to read them. *grumbles*

So sorry to hear about your friend. This isn't the same person as you were talking about earlier, is it? Who was also involved in The Lonesome West? Friendship troubles suck. *sends huggles*
