It's a fresh autumn afternoon and Merlin is taking a break from his winter preparations. He's found a hollow piece of wood, and he's played with it, crafted it into a rudimentary flute. He's sitting on a tree stub out in a clearing and playing it slowly, experimenting. It's sometimes good, sometimes terrible, sometimes soulful, sometimes playful.

"Lo, lad," he calls, looking gruffly amused. "What's that then? Art moving the trees to greener pastures?"

"Mornin', dude," replies Dean rather cheerfully. He glances over his shoulder at the branch, then back to Merlin with a supremely satisfied expression. "Firewood," he announces knowingly, as if this explains everything. "Of the extremely dangerous and hard to kill variety. But I fixed its goat."

He hears the sound of a flute, and cocks his head to listen.
He is quite a distance from the flute-player, but he keeps walking, wanting to know who makes such fascinating, playful music.

There's still the scent of clove about the air, and it's a rather calm space, free of strife.
We realize the combination is odd, but Merlin would say, isn't everything at the Mansion odd?

He doesn't seem perturbed by the fact that he's making conversation with a living stuffed toy.

When he's within sight the humming turns into loud tuneless singing with no real words. "Lalala! LA! LA! La! Lalalalala! LALALA! La!"

"Why, hello there," he offers, looking vaguely friendly.
Somehow, the tune is still playing. On its on. On a levitating flute.

The sunlight is fading as the afternoon draws to a close but he isn't in a hurry to get inside because of any approaching darkness.

Through the foliage, there is a merlin - a bird, not a man, peering at the wandering youth with curiosity.

"Hello there." He likes birds - they don't growl at him like many animals do. He holds out a crooked arm as if inviting the bird to land on it.
