[Open] This mellifluous tongue

Sep 07, 2011 23:38

It's a fresh autumn afternoon and Merlin is taking a break from his winter preparations. He's found a hollow piece of wood, and he's played with it, crafted it into a rudimentary flute. He's sitting on a tree stub out in a clearing and playing it slowly, experimenting. It's sometimes good, sometimes terrible, sometimes soulful, sometimes playful.

Dean isn't, it's true, what most would call a polite young man; hell, he's actively worked not to be for a good portion of his life. It's easier that way, and it's much easier to just do whatever the hell you want when people already expect you to do just that. But the truth of the matter is that John Winchester raised his sons with a code of ironbound morals that leaves very little room for interpretation, no matter how majestically hypocritical it made the King of Double Standards at any given time: one of these is never to leave a debt unpaid, and if you can't pay the debt, at least fucking say thank you like a proper person ( ... )

The old wizard will be sitting on his stub somewhere along the way, and he'll be puffing of his old pipe, as Dean has seen him do before.

"Lo, lad," he calls, looking gruffly amused. "What's that then? Art moving the trees to greener pastures?"

Dean has the axe balanced on one shoulder in a display of Sharp Edged Tool related stupidity that would earn him a twenty minute lecture if his dad were around to see it; he adjusts the branch in his other hand, and even once he spots Merlin, doesn't slow down until he's easily within conversational distance.

"Mornin', dude," replies Dean rather cheerfully. He glances over his shoulder at the branch, then back to Merlin with a supremely satisfied expression. "Firewood," he announces knowingly, as if this explains everything. "Of the extremely dangerous and hard to kill variety. But I fixed its goat."

Merlin stops his musical endeavor and looks at Dean. "I see," he says slowly. "Put that axe down, boy, before you chop your own head off and ruin all my hard work."

He's happy to see him walking, though - if gruffly.

How about a bird!Merlin? in_summer_leaf September 8 2011, 05:23:22 UTC
Hisoka is walking in the woods after a long hard day working on Genkai's dojo, setting up for his second boat project (a rowboat), and probably, attending a grueling play rehearsal as well.

He hears the sound of a flute, and cocks his head to listen.

He is quite a distance from the flute-player, but he keeps walking, wanting to know who makes such fascinating, playful music.

By the time Hisoka makes it to the clearing, there is nothing on the stub, but the tune is still sung, this time, by a rather cheery looking old raven, perched high up on a branch.

There's still the scent of clove about the air, and it's a rather calm space, free of strife.

We realize the combination is odd, but Merlin would say, isn't everything at the Mansion odd?

Hisoka tilts his head to peer up at the raven on the branch. It is surprising to hear that same tune rendered in a corvine croak!

"Hello?" he says, tentatively.

Merlin the raven croaks right back! "Hallo!"

Can has a young!Merlin, if possible?? thistle_muncher September 8 2011, 05:54:38 UTC
Eeyore is venturing outside: the days are getting cooler and he's looking for some haycorns to deck out the shelf close to his red donkey bed. He's found a nice large cluster and he's carrying the sprig in his mouth as he shuffles along.

The younger looking wizard certainly looks like he's amused, and he'll fall in step with Eeyore.

"Hallo there," Merlin calls. "Jolly good day, is it?"

He doesn't seem perturbed by the fact that he's making conversation with a living stuffed toy.

Eeyore looks up at the young man who's walking next to him, then pauses and takes the haycorns out of his mouth. "Good day for collecting haycorns, feels like fall," he says. He's a bit puzzled that a young man doesn't seem fazed by talking to a cuddly toy, but one has to be polite.

Young Merlin it is! myrddin_wyllt September 14 2011, 17:55:54 UTC
"Well, I suppose we're on the way to it," Merlin replies companionably. "Soon it'll be damp and rusty, and we will have red twilight. Lovely time of the year, aye?"

Hearing music, Cosmo is humming along with it as he nears where Merlin is - it's mostly all out of tune but sometimes it's louder and sometimes it's soft.

When he's within sight the humming turns into loud tuneless singing with no real words. "Lalala! LA! LA! La! Lalalalala! LALALA! La!"

Merlin is going to be suitably amused, and he'll look up at the fairy - it's been ages since he saw one, really.

"Why, hello there," he offers, looking vaguely friendly.

Somehow, the tune is still playing. On its on. On a levitating flute.

"Helllooo!!!!!" Cosmo waves enthusiastically.

The flute doesn't bother him. He's seen far weirder things than that.

Merlin looks up at Cosmo, he's smiling faintly. "And what's your name, little one?"

A bird!Merlin would be good to start with, please! ggrindelwald September 8 2011, 10:24:20 UTC
Gellert is wandering, admiring the autumn foliage. He had always enjoyed the colours of this season.

The sunlight is fading as the afternoon draws to a close but he isn't in a hurry to get inside because of any approaching darkness.

Ah, Merlin has a few words to have with you, Mr. Grindelwald. Excellent.

Through the foliage, there is a merlin - a bird, not a man, peering at the wandering youth with curiosity.

He spots the bird after a moment and grins a little.

"Hello there." He likes birds - they don't growl at him like many animals do. He holds out a crooked arm as if inviting the bird to land on it.

The bird cocks his head at Gellert, coos, and seems to be examining him curiously.
