Since Albert's disappearance, Muraki has been largely holed up in his office, typing his memoirs and living on Valium and stir-fry cooked over a Bunsen burner (those thrown-together meals kept him alive in college, why not now, especially since he's been writing about those idyllic days). He has his better days and his worse ones. Tonight, however, he's vaguely restless: might be the weather, which has turned muggy and oppressive of a sudden.
He's currently just returned after a shower, to proof-read till his good eye goes blurry and he crashes on the couch...

Muraki was about to snap back, "You'll get to them only through me" but that retort dies in his throat. Instead, he emits a barely human yowl of pain, bending over backward and clutching his head in both hands.
The phage screams within it's host's head, trying to maintain a link with the host, but in so doing, it's aetheric substance is being pulled and stretched. It may be trying to let itself be torn in two, the part that protects and sustains its host trying to cling to him...
The pain of the fire in Kyoto, the pain of his mother's abuse, the pain of the traumas induced by Saki... nothing was like this pain...

Morgoth pulls and pulls, not yanking, but rather keeping it a steadily torturous thread. Muraki's suffering is beautiful, sustaining, and he wants to stretch it out as long as necessary.
.... I just had this thought, would ripping the phage in half help with your Muraki issues? Because this is kind of an opportunity...

The yowl becomes a high-pitched shriek and the pain in his head intensifies. The darkness seems suddenly lit like the noonday sun from the pressure this is causing. He can feel the phage trying to hang onto him, but it's being pulled, as if being drawn into a black hole...
THIS! would be most perfect: might damage him psychically, but sometimes something has to be broken again before it can heal properly...

His scream cuts off as if his vocal cord were snapped in two, and the brightness in his head goes dark. Muraki sinks onto his side, curling up in a fetal posture, blood dripping from his nostrils. He lies there, panting and sweating, quivering. The screaming in his head has stopped, but the pain has diminished only by half.
"What...just happened? what did you do...?" he asks, his voice raspy with pain and from the screaming.

He pulls himself upright and hauls himself to the bed: he has just enough strength to lay down on his own pillows, before what remains of the phage casts him into a deep sleep to draw on what energy reserves he has left and mend what damage it can...
He likely won't move for a day or so... but when he awakens, there will be another ordeal, albeit a lighter one awaiting...

So he pulls and pulls, with excruciating slowness, until the rip is complete.... and Muraki is not.
^^ Consider it done!
