[Open] It's the season of possible miracle cures

Dec 21, 2010 17:18

It was Sophie who made Sugar notice that yes, indeed, Michaelmas had come and gone. In fact, Christmas is coming godspeed, and oh! nothing has been done to celebrate, and when you are a parent, you should celebrate, and and and!

That's why, on impulse without consulting her co-parent, or anyone, for that matter, Sugar bundled up, made her way to the ( Read more... )

Mal has a love-hate thing for Christmas: he likes the festivities, but the reason for the season has lost much of its meaning to him, and there are times when it reminds him of people he's lost along the way. But he's not about to be a gorram Scrooge, thus he's been out much of the day cutting berried holly and winter berry branches to tuck behind pictures on the walls and along the tops of the windows and the mantelpieces. It's very likely that he might pass by Sugar on one of his trips with an armload of greenery and long twigs with red berries on them.

"Hoy there, need a hand, Miss?"

He and Sugar should get along famously...

The shawl which Sugar had tied around her head to cover her ears is sliding a little, and she's in fact having a pretty hard time with both dragging the tree and seeing anything at all.

That's why she has to drop the whole gorram thing and twist around to see who's talking.

The vapor slips out of her mouth when she replies, "If you won't mind helping me take this back to the Mansion, sir," she replies, "that would be very kind to my little girl."

^^ This is spifzors!

"Nothin' doin'," Mal says, setting down the armload of holly and approaching to reach through the branches carefully to take the middle of the trunk in one hand before taking a second grip on the trunk, closer to the butt end. "Ain't Christmas without a nice pine tree. How old's yer little girl?"

"Here, let me --" and unless he objects, Sugar might hesitate - should she stick to the tree, or pick up the holly instead? She's confused, now - kindness has that effect on her.

"-- she's just turned nine," she replies distractedly. "-- should I take the tree, or?"

11-12 has actually found a small box of decoration in the plot-hole, which includes mostly a lot of bright, colourful tinsel. He's bringing it to the main room when he spies the young girl making her decorations.

"Hello there," he says, dropping the box nearby and smiling at Sophie. "Need some help?"

[ooc: Heh. I was thinking about making a post like this this past couple weeks but then I got sick and busier and... So here 11-12 is to help out!]

Sophie looks up at the young man - he looks nice, actually kind of makes her think of her daddy because his eyes are so alive and deep.

"Hi! I'm Sophie - I'm making decorations - Mama is getting the tree."

She nods, seriously, and this means yes, of course.

[OOC: Oh noes! I'm so sorry for stealing your thunder! >.< But we're happy to see you and 11-12?]

"I'm 11-12," and he pauses as if expecting some comment on that. Most people do say something about his name, although he hasn't spoken to many children so he can't predict whether she'll be bothered by this or not.

Sophie blinks. "-- are you eleven, or twelve? You don't look eleven. Or twelve. You look old," she informs him, but without any kind of malice, just simple childish honesty. "Like my daddy."

Titus has never seen a Christmas tree. Gormenghast had it's elaborate winter Rituals -- tracing patterns in the first snow of a particular courtyard, using a specific long stick, or setting balls of snow on pedestals in the windows of the Tower of Flints -- but never anything like this. He watches Sophie mystified, yet delighted, wondering what its all for.

The little girl is very excited by this, and so she's hopping up and down and trying to put a straw angle up on a branch that's too high for her.

"Can you help me, mister?"

She's easy to talk to, like that.

Go ahead, we'll do you/me/you/me and I'll alternate between her and Sugar, hm? ^^

He looks from the tree to the ornament to Sophie and back. "I would, but what, might I ask, would you have me to do?" he asks.

Hee! I like the sound of that!

Sugar is nearby, draping a corn garland around the higher circumference of the tree - she's recovered from her ordeal, thanks to Mal's help.

"Like this," she says, helpfully. "Have you never celebrated Michaelmas?"

Oh, Victorians and their complications.

Yaaaay! ^^

Hisoka has come back from the woods with branches of pine and armloads of holly. He is now sitting in the common room, making garlands and wreaths to hang on walls and doors.

Cue a cute little girl with lots of positive energy and a wide grin bouncing over to him!

"Hello mister! Are you making decorations too?"

I took a chance, did you have a preference for the child, or the mother? Or, I can do the same as with Titus, you/me/you/me, and I'll alternate them as fits...

"Yes, I am. I'm Hisoka Kurosaki. What's your name?"

{{I'll leave it up to you. XD Sophie's adorable and I'm sure her mom is, too.}}

"I'm Sophie!" She smiles, and takes one of the popcorn kernels that she was threading together, noms on it. "You have a very long name. Which part should I call you, sir?"

She wonders if he's like Mr. Asato. (That's how she calls Tsuzuki!)

Mum will be along eventually - she needs to get out more - but I'll stick to Sophie for now. ^^

Hatter saunters in from outside, knocking snow from his boots and brushing it from his jacket and hat. Then he notices the unusual sight that's taken over the main room. "Well!" His eyebrows raise toward the brim of his hat and he rests his hands on his hips. "What's all this, then? Haven't you got enough of the trees outside, you had to go and drag one in?" Hatter gestures expansively from the doors toward the tree. He hasn't got anything against trees indoors, he had a rather nice one growing in his office/living space in the back of the tea shop and it was more common than not throughout the city to find something growing through ancient bricks and mortar, but to cut one down and put it inside strikes him as a touch morbid and a little mad.

Sugar blinks, bemused for a moment by Hatter's interjection. He does look vaguely familiar, actually.

"... I suppose Michaelmas isn't celebrated in your world of origin?"

Sophie's a little bit afraid and edges towards her mother's skirts, to hide there.

Might keep it him and Sugar for now, will bring Soph out if necessary? Does this work for you? ^^

"Michael who?" He blinks at her for a few moments, then shakes his head. "Must be an oyster thing, Nope, never heard of it. What's it got to do with propping up dead trees indoors?"

Fine with me

This, Hatter, is Sugar's WTF face. "--- I'm sorry, oysters?"

What do they even have to do with anything?

The little girl is still staring at Hatter from behind Sugar's skirts.
