[Open Post] Gone Huntin'

Nov 19, 2010 19:08

The November rains have finally let up enough that folk can get them some outside work done. The woods are bare now except for the dark green firs and the lighter green pines, and the russet and dark gold and tan of some oaks still holding their leaves. With the month waning, it's getting close to when most folk would be celebrating the harvest. ( Read more... )

rematch tiem? :D daddyissuesjnr November 20 2010, 02:13:10 UTC
Melou is out in the woods, brooding (what else would he be doing?). After all the drama with his uncle, he's in an even worse mood than usual.

Feel free to bump into him, Mal. He's not going to be very happy to see you.

Mal is currently in search of a spot to use as a base camp of sort, some place to hang up his kills and to stop and clean his gun. When lo and behold, who should he spy but lil' King Hardhands.

"Mornin', yer highnessliness," he calls out. Hey, it's a start. "Broodin' over th' affairs of yer vast kingdom?"

Melou was really hoping he wouldn't run into anybody, and Mal is probably one of the last people he wants to see.

He glares. "What are you doing here?"

This is his angsty place, you aren't supposed to be here :|

"Headin' out t' do a little huntin'," he says, lowering the shotgun from his shoulder, but keeping the muzzle pointed to the ground. "Thought I'd bring down a few turkey-birds, seein' that it's comin' up onna holiday by th' name a' Thanks-Givin'."

See, he can avoid snarking at the kid.

So here's someone who you last saw beating the crap out of the above kingliness. He looks considerably less dangerous today, although having seen under that, from the dangerous grin to the fluid movements, Mal probably knows better. Cal is currently out in the woods, in fact, doing some more work. It's distracting, mostly, taking his mind off of the unpleasant Halloween he just had.

He doesn't like that tugging feeling and the way it doesn't go away. It reminds him of what happens when he talks to Muraki.

There is that side of Cal which gives Mal the wibblies, but as long as that ain't to be seen, the kid's just fine in his eyes. Right now, he's rather pleased to see him.

"Hey there, Cal," he calls out. "Don't mind th' fella out gettin' his Thanks-Givin' turkey." He hasn't bagged one yet, but it's still early enough in the day.

Cal spins around and jerks his head up, for a moment looking very much like that side, but then he relaxes, dropping his fighting stance and straightening, still wearing his usual leather jacket and jeans. "Don't mind at all," he says, with a quick little smile that's even almost genuine. "Guess you haven't found it yet; seen any?"

And after a pause, adds, "It's Caliban."

"Heard some gobblin' around, but ain't seen 'em yet," he says. "Turkeys ain't th' hardest things t' take down, unless they get up into th' trees. Been known t' happen if they're spooked: usually they'll poke around the bushes, otherwise."

Perhaps in his wandering out, Malcolm will come across a lovely brunette who is currently reading under the sun.

It's a lovely day, even for fall, and with a warm sweater, the Parisian postal clerk feels comfortable enough to bury herself in the writings of a rather iconoclastic novelist.

She's reading I Shall Spit On Your Graves, by, quoth the cover, Vernon Sullivan. The title is fitting. The author (Boris Vian), even more so.

He's brought down one bird, and he's carrying it back to the porch, slung over his shoulder, the feet tied together, when he spots the lady reading. He pauses, cocking his head to see the title and snerks a little.

"Crazy title for a book," he says, half under his breath, half out loud.

Ines looks at the impertinent male, one eyebrow up. "Well hello to you as well, Monsieur."

How dare you interrupt my reading?

Whoo, feisty French mam'zelle... He can't help smirking a bit at that reaction. "Hello yourself, mighty clever title f'r a book y' got there," he says. "Mal Reynolds. I'd offer m' hand, but I been a bit busy in th' woods." He glances at the bird over his shoulder.

Out in the woods, perhaps Mal will get the strange feeling that he is getting observed.

That's because he is. His visits to the Mansion may have increased in frequency, but Caranthir has retained his hunting habits, and more importantly, his proprietary feeling about the tree-house he and Faraday made for themselves.

And it's not impossible that he's up in the trees, on a branch, keeping watch. It might also have something to do with the fact that he feels a watch is necessary. For now, he's not considering Mal a threat, but he is observing, well hidden behind foliage.

Mal doesn't exactly have a sixth sense, but the years of the Unification War taught him to watch his back if Zoe wasn't there to cover it. But this time, he's loping along unconcerned, keeping an eye open for any fan-tailed game birds poking around in the underbrush, not suspecting there's anyone watching him from above.

Caranthir's footsteps are quiet in the foliage - he's gotten excellent at this.

Perhaps he's feeling concerned with this odd man's safety. Or perhaps he's just bored. For now, he's still shadowing Mal.

It's likely not a rustle in the branches which twigs Mal's attention or it's a simple prickling feeling on the back of his neck. Either way, he pauses and glances around, but doesn't look up. Yet. He presses on, keeping his eyes on the bushes.

For a change, here's someone calm and generally not aggressive, angsty, or otherwise complex to speak to.

Belize might be bumped into going in any direction to or from the woods. He's picking apples (the last few of them), and intends to be baking a pie later. He's got Thanksgiving on his mind as well.

He's managed to bring down a second bird, which he's lugging toward the house when he passes through the orchard and spots Belize. "Y' pickin' them for applesauce or a pie?" he says.

Well, that feels damn familiar. "Pie. With apple sauce in it. Why?"

Also, hello, who are you?

"Best time a' year for it, goes good with turkey, too," he says, eying the floppy-headed bird slung over his shoulder. "I'm Mal, Mal Reynolds."
