Simeon's been in the library, and now he's sitting around the main room with a few books on circutry and computers, flipping through another about an early 21st century programming language. It's much simplier than the languages he's used to using, he doubts that one could create a genuine AI with it at all. Still, it's giving him a better idea ( Read more... )

Here's a nurse from the 80's flopping on the couch next to him, of course!

"Well there you are!"

"Where was I supposed to be?" He looks up with a grin, keeping his place with his finger sandwiched between the pages. "Hey, Belize."

"Transfixed in front of your computer, where else?" Belize chuckles, and puts a hand on Simeon's shoulder. "Reading something interesting?"

"Educating myself on old programming languages. It gives me a better idea of what vintage computers can actually accomplish." He thumps the top of his stack with the other hand. "I'm considering trying to build something a bit more intelligent but I've never done that before myself."

Zhane isn't going to interrupt someone in their studies - but he might come to Simeon's notice, since he's in fact tweaking with electronics of sorts at a nearby table.

Typist isn't quite sure what he's doing just yet.

Simeon does notice eventually, and sets the book aside upside-down on the couch to keep his page before wandering over for a closer look. He misses his cameras and their zoom functions. "What are you up to here?"

Zhane looks up. "Oh, hi," he does vaguely recognize Simeon, it's been quite a while. "-- you're that guy that greeted me, then I arrived, aren't you -- Simon?"

"Simeon, but close enough." He grins, leaning a little against the table. "What are you working on?"

And there's a pale fellow who holds doctorate degrees in general medicine and surgery as well as an MS in genetics who's just entered the main room bringing a bowl of matcha (traditional green tea) with him and looking for a warm spot that's not in direct sunlight to sit and enjoy it, but he pauses, glancing at the thick book which this young man is reading. He won't interrupt, since he recognizes genius at work, but his piercing gaze might be palpable enough to distract Simeon for a moment.

Simeon does look up as Muraki looks at him, and greets him with bit of a smile. "Oh, hi. I haven't seen you around before." He doesn't notice anything unusual about the man, he's only just gotten used to dealing with people face to face, rather than through cameras and screens.

"I imagine you wouldn't: I've been rather invisible since I arrived here two months ago; my entry to this world was somewhat painful and it took me that long to make a decent recovery," he says with a bit of a wry smirk. "But I couldn't help noticing that tome you're reading: are you a student of computer science?" he asks, curious.

"You could say that." He grins. "I'm trying to learn more about the older programming languages and methods. Well, older compared to where I'm from. I haven't found anything around here that would have anywhere near the computing capacity that I'm used to." He realizes he's running his mouth a bit and shrugs. "What are you up to?"

My mother has a MA in AI -- I guess -- or was it my cousin? So I'll be merciless mwhahahaha.

Aaand if it's late enough for Adrian to have finished his frugal 'breakfast', which could be called 'dinner' by non-vampires -- albeit a frugal one, as aforementioned, he basically doesn't need too much food -- then he'll show up in the common room, a couple of old comic books under his arm.

He notices the unfamiliar young man and approaches him right away. "Hi there. It's nice to see a new face."

"Simeon looks up and sets down his book when he realizes that he's the one being spoken to. "Yeah, it is." He offers a hand to shake. "I'm Simeon, nice to meet you."

Adrian takes the hand gladly and gives it a healthy shake. "Adrian -- same. Mind if I sit down? You look terribly preoccupied."

"Yeah, go ahead. It's nothing that important, really. I've had plenty of experience with programming languages, even if I don't know this one specifically." He shrugs. "What were you up to?"

Finally feeling a bit better and deciding to look around his new home, Pasha wanders into the main room. He's carrying a book with him, but it's mostly just a prop. He sees the young man and is inclined to ignore him, but he decides to try a little friendliness, even if he's rusty at it. "Hello..."

Simeon looks up and rests his book on his knee. "Hi. I haven't seen you around before. I'm Simeon." He offers a hand.

Pasha bends a little to take and shake the offered hand. "I haven't been here long. I'm called Strelnikov."

"Nice to meet you. I've been here a while, but I usually keep to myself." He's trying to get out of that habit, hence his current position in the main room.
