Neville has sat down to a proper British tea. There's tea, of course, and a platter of cucumber sandwiches and a large selection of biscuits and scones. He'd share, if he spies you, and you're willing, but he is a Bean after all. A wizard Bean at that.
Arrietty crouched down behind a mug, peering around it carefully. He didn't look like anybody she knew, and neither did the kitchen.
She was hungry though. Maybe she could sneak up and get some of his sandwiches if any were left when he was done. She edged around the mug, then accidentally knocked into it, making more noise than could be ignored.
Neville startles slightly, catching his breath when he first spots the tiny girl. Still, he comes from a world of house elves so it's not as if this is that out of his experience. "Well, hi," he greets her. "I don't believe met," he points out politely. "I'm Neville."
She freezes and watches the Bean with wide eyes. Well... he's being polite? She can be polite. To a point. Arrietty stands up and tries to look as proud and not scared as possible.
"Hello Neville. Are you the one that has moved me to this strange place?"
Yes, but what about one who is not a bean? Though Falkor at the moment is sleeping in the attic, as he often is when he's not out flying, singing and dancing to cheer up his friends. He does not snore, nor does he breathe loudly.
So for the little borrower, there might be, actually, a rather large and warm couch (seriously, the largest of them all) which might seem like a nice place, with comfortable cracks and nooks in which to nap.
The Mansion is HUGE! Far larger than anything she had ever seen before, but still no other Borrowers. Strange though, how the spaces between the walls had lots of little things that were just her size; perfect for moving around quickly.
The attic was quiet and always a good place for Borrowing. No sign of Beans... Oh, but she would have to climb over the big white soft thing to get to the other side.
Well, if Arrietty needs something a little more familiar and reassuring, down under one of the cupboards of the kitchen, she might come across an old man her size, who is finishing with putting together a nice little room, complete with bedside lamp and some flowery wall paper.
Because the Merlin can be nice that way, when he notices arrivals with special needs.
Arrietty is coming back to where she started, thinking that perhaps she should start making a map when she finds a stranger her size right in front of her.
Arrietty is so thrilled and she moves to take a seat in another chair. "Arrietty. Arrietty Clock. My family was living under a window seat in the church, but now I'm here in this great big house filled with all kinds of strange people. Beans and things that aren't Beans!"
Not a Bean, but he's friendly enough, and she might find him sitting by the fireside, a book laid out on the floor and a small pile of celery sticks next to them. In between turning pages, he'll pick up a celery stick in his mouth and crunch it, eating it. Even though it looks like he's made of stuff not unlike what's on a nearby couch, only grey rather than red.
Not a Bean and she doesn't think this greens-munching .... stuffed animal? will eat her, but better safe than sorry, right?
So, after looking around and making sure there's nothing else dangerous nearby, she might edge up close enough to speak, but far enough away that she can sprint for the underside of a chair if she needs to.
The critter looks up, crunching the last bit of the stalk in his mouth and swallowing. "Hello, would have said hello sooner, but it's rude to talk with one's mouth full," the critter replies morosely. "I'm Eeyore. I'm a donkey."
"A donkey?" Well, Arrietty knows that cats cannot talk, and most other animals are unable to speak as well, but ... "I've seen pictures of donkey's in books, but I have never met one before. I thought that perhaps you would be much bigger."
And here's an ingenue - one whose life is one of quiet drama, all around. Her mother in-law gave birth of late, and she's been busy assisting her as much as she could, but maybe this is one of those times where Sansa is with her mother, or her father-in-law took a moment for himself
( ... )
Arrietty can do very fine needle point when she puts her mind to it (there's just usually far more interesting things than making pictures on cloth). Still, there's always something interesting about watching others do it and she might settle down for a bit to watch the patterns take shape from a spot on a shelf. She's in view, but not too worried. So far, all the Beans she's met have been nice, if a bit strange.
She's also got a single lemon shortbread biscuit with her that she's been nibbling at while watching. This Bean is very good at needle work.
Angelique is humming as she works, and she's rather focused. It's rare that she'll sting her fingers, but here she does, and that makes her look up, and sigh.
She's bleeding a little so she seeks to find something with which to find her finger - so as to keep it from staining the banner.
That's when she spots the little person who is observing her, and just.... "Oh."
She's been here long enough that she's learned to accept strange things, but this... is new. Not threatening, though, just new.
Arrietty is learning that the Beans here seem to want to talk first and scream second (if they scream at all), so she doesn't run away. Instead, she brushes crumbs from her lap, stands, and curtsies. This Bean looks like a proper Lady after all and we want to be polite.
"Hello. I am Arrietty Clock. I hope I was not bothering you."

He'll be gentle to her, we promise.

She might let out a bit of a gasp.
"I thought I was the only one here!"

"Many of us are one of a kind," he says casually as he takes a seat in one of the chairs. "I am the Merlin. What is your name, sweetling?"
