[Introduction] The apocalypse is canceled until I say so

Aug 11, 2012 20:28

Inter-dimensional travel was never pretty.  Damian had read reports of being sucked into an alternate reality where everything that didn't matter was the same and the few things that did were altered in some key, disturbing fashion.  And considering his line of work, he had always figured it would only be a matter of time until he experienced the ( Read more... )

Here's another child that's used to action. (Although it terms of maturity, is leaps and bounds ahead of you.) She'll be near the lake, stretching to practice her swordplay again.

Damian paces the perimeter of the lake, flipping a knife in one hand and holding a stolen book in the other. He had found it on the porch and, as he flipped through it as well, is beginning to think it belongs to the warrior with the mutt. There is sticky slobber on some of the pages. Stolen is not the right word. Damian has rescued this book.

He comes to a stop when he sees the girl training on a stretch of grass ahead of him. She . . . isn't bad, he has to admit. He stops to watch and assess her skill.

She stops as soon as she notices Damian watching her, which is a couple minutes into the routine. Blink, blink.

"Hello?"

Damian looks back at the girl. Staring a bit. Impolite, but he doesn't care much, or maybe he just wasn't taught well.

If Damien hangs around the lake long enough, he'll see Hisoka rowing his rowboat parallel to the shore. He's singing one of his favorite sailors' songs, a rollicking tune that he belts out with more enthusiasm and approval than you would expect from one who had been a dedicated pirate hunter:

"There were three brothers in merry Tulgrim,
In merry Tuglrim were there three,
And they did cast lots which of them should go, should go, should go...
And turn robber all on the salt sea."

"The lot it feel first upon Henry Martin,
The youngest of all of the three,
That he should turn robber all on the salt sea, the salt sea, the salt sea...
For to maintain his two brothers and he."

He skips a few verses and gets to the good part, where Henry Martin has run the Jolly Roger up the mast and chased a merchant ship and is now demanding their cargo.

"Oh lower, oh lower your lofty topsail,
And bring yourselves under our lee,
Or I will give to you a full cannon ball, cannon ball, cannon ball....
And drown your dear bodies all in the salt sea!"

Damian turns his head at the sound of singing. It's too cheerful. No one but him seems to recognize the crisis they're all in and if he must, he'll be the one to change that. Although . . . he did like the sound of that last verse. What young boy isn't enchanted by pirates? Of course, Damian would deny it.

Hisoka shades his eyes from the sun, and spots Damian on the shore. "Ahoy! Young man!" he calls across the water.

Damian squints his eyes to look back at Hisoka. He nods up once to show he's heard. He has too much dignity to shout back.

Damian has been sniffing around every accessible inch in the place, doing his best to examine space and materials while avoiding as many actual people as he can. But this is his first time in the stables. If anyone asks, he'd say that the smell is disgusting and the work to be done here is for peasants. But there is something comfortable about it.

He of course has had horseback riding lessons in both his life with his trainers and later when his father decided he needed a photo-op. He looks over the boy checking one of the horses and, deeming him no threat, leans back against a wall.

Damian blinks, taken aback by the question. The colors are, admittedly, garish. But he's the fifth Robin to wear them. They are legacy. No one in Gotham has questioned those colors in over a decade. "... it is my uniform."

Here's someone who's equally bratty. (Melou may be nineteen, but he acts like an eleven year old, half the time).

He's out near the lake, standing near the base of a tree and brooding. Due to recent in game events, he's even grumpier than usual.

Damian doesn't notice him at first, sitting down on the opposite side of the same tree and brooding just as vehemently. He'd do his father proud. He still hasn't found a way out of here and he has work to do back in the real world. And . . . people to be with.

Melou notices him, but he doesn't say anything just yet. He's waiting to see if Damian will speak to him first.

Damian many not notice the stranger at first but he is the son of and apprenticed to the world's greatest detective. It does not take long and he scowls when he notices the other presence. "I can hear you breathe," he grumbles childishly.

In one of the hallways Damian may see a strange sight - a small human-like creature is floating along in mid air. He's about the size of a person's head and he has wings but they don't seem to be moving much. He also has bright green hair, a crown floating above his head and is holding a wand with a gold star on the end.

The fairy is muttering aloud to himself.

"That's one door and another door and it's one, two, three, seven! Uhhh.... Where was I...?"

Damian stalks the creature, sticking to corners and alcoves and door jambs. He tells itself it's because he needs to assess the threat, but in truth, he's doing what any child would do when encountering a fairy: following it, eyes wide and mouth slightly open in wonder.

Cosmo looks slowly around. "Why do I get the feeling I'm being watched....?"

Damian ducks back into a doorway before he remembers he is the heir to the House Al-Ghul and the legacy of Batman and such hiding is not befitting of his station. He steps out.
