Press Kit for Only Lovers Left Alive

May 20, 2013 14:13

Contrary to many others on LJ I am not yet tired of vampires and zombies yet, although we have been flooded with tv-shows and movies in the recent years. While some of the zombie movies were very good, like 28 Days Later, Simon Pegg's Shawn Of The Dead or Zombieland, the only vampire-related movie that comes to my mind is the unfortunate Twilight ( Read more... )

Regardless of all that, I'm super excited for the actual film. Especially after this first look.

Vampire Hiddleston is making me all excited :) even if the movie flops, I'll enjoy it just for that! (but this first look has me more excited than the press kit, I'll admit. Especially their choice of music!)

Ha! Didn't se the choice of music (narrows eyes at print) but yes, I'll watch this no matter what for Tom Hiddleston's lovely doe eyes and immaculate cheek bones.

Also Tom Hiddleston with black hair is always good :D

Oh by choice of music I meant by what you hear in the video I embedded since it sounds really fitting :)

I AM kind of worried since it's supposed to be inspired by some Mark Twain shittery and I'm not the hugest of fans, especially by the whole Adam and Eve thing, but I'm gonna give it a chance simply because of vampire hiddles!

Ah that music! That is very well chosen!

Just not too impressed by the characterization. Also, I find Jarmusch often pretentious. But yes, none of my petty complaining matters ... because Tom Hiddleston. With black mascara. And black eyeliner.

I'm not very impressed by the press kit. Tbh, I'm actually pretty put down by the character bios, they are full of stereotypical bullshit. Also, if you feel like your best bet is comparing your character to a well-established, famous, and tragic dramatic hero you are probably on the wrong track. But I'll watch anyway for Hiddles prettiness.

Yes, the character bios are really ... yawn! That's what I actually don't like about Jarmusch. He insists on being seen as "unusual", "quirky" and "subculture" but is in truth quite middle-class. His character bios prove that as well.

Also, as I mentioned above, the character bio for Wasikowska is still placeholder text and the second 'l' in "ALive" is a captial letter. Not sure if that's intentional. As far as I know, that press kit was submitted to Cannes.

I didn't become tired of vamps and zombies over time and overexposure like most; I'm pretty sure I was born tired of them. :). So, while there are rare gems (Interview with a vampire comes to mind), my expectations of the genre in general are jaded. I always assume the worst. At least that means if I actually watch a film in the genre, the only way for it to go is up. :)

I was born with a love for horror movies and things. Even as a kid, I liked it. I often re-enacted little scenarios as a kid, with dolls and other things, like cutting off heads. (Meanwhile I have seen a fair amount of kids who sever Barbie limbs or melt them, so I guess that's normal kid behaviour :D) I wanted to like the Zombie genre, because as a kid I loved the esthetics of John Carpenter's Fog (it looked pretty then!) but it. just. was. so. silly ( ... )

lol. I was never a horror fan, even as a kid. I grew up on books, mostly. I had my shows, but I don't remember watching a lot of tv as a kid. I liked mysteries and the fantastical, but monsters in and of themselves didn't really interest me ( ... )
