Sunday morning ramble

Feb 08, 2009 09:51

I'm trying out a new layout. (I've been considering a custom Wendell/Hodgins banner, but my coworkers are always looking over my shoulder and that would probably get their attention more than one of the LJ styles. Still, it's tempting. Not that I am any good at that sort of thing.) I'm also trying out this Wendell icon as my default for awhile ( Read more... )

I don't know where in Kville you live, but that did seem like a long drive for pottery classes. Maybe there's something closer if you want to keep doing it? Mighty Mud on Sutherland has workshops, I think. I've never been there, but I checked in to them a while back after a sculpted a few new things, and they apparently have big Raku firings from time to time that are supposedly fun. I keep buying clay and sculpting little things from time to time, but it's never enough to justify spending money to have them fired. I keep hoping I'll find more inspiration. :P

I'm going to have to pretend I have a life which prevented me from watching

*gigglesnort* I know that feeling all too well. :)

There are places in town, but they charge a lot more for classes and such. Also, I have a coworker who's active at the crafts center where I've been going, so that affected my decision too. Though I really like it there, I like the people and the way the co-op aspect of it works, and it's only $40 a year, plus $30 for clay, which includes firing and glazes, so it's a good deal. When I don't *have* to drive there I won't mind going at all, because it's really not a bad drive and it's nice to get out of town a little.

The place I go does Raku firings too, and they're building an outdoor wood kiln this summer, so I'm excited to be involved. I would be more excited probably if I still didn't suck so much ;)

The fact that you just compared Wendell/Hodgins to Speed/Tyler makes me want to delve into this fandom head on. Thank you. Speed/Tyler is my little happy place and I go back there when I need comfort ( ... )

I think my issue with CM fandom is my *fear* of what might happen if I get really involved in an active fandom. Because I've only done it one other time, and it hurt a lot when things fell apart. You know? So it's really just me projecting my fear of rejection when nothing bad at all has happened. Everyone's been very kind in that fandom so far.

Oh, I miss Tyler. I miss the conversations we used to have in my head.

You probably already tried this...this is just my obsessive side talking...but isn't there a pottery class closer? I can't imagine a town as big as yours not having a storefront somewhere nearby that has a kiln-for-hire. What do I know...I don't even know what's in MY town.

I sometimes wish that canon didn't exist. I know that's where we get all our fandoms to follow, but it messes with the creative process. I hate the canonfaithful clique that rains on the non-canon parade whenever it pleases them to do so. It's just fandom! I really don't get why you can't just write it the way it moves you to write it! (Especially since, in your case, the "movement" is always delicious.)

Can't we just all get along???

There are pottery classes closer, but they cost a lot more. Plus, the place I've been going is a co-op, so now that I'm a member I can let myself in whenever, which is nice. Plus, it's nice to get out of town a little. I guess I just reached my limit with having something *every* Sunday. After today I can just go whenever, and that'll be much nicer.

Oh, I didn't know that. That's cool. It'll be like a retreat...with kiln!

There's not even that much canon for WendellThere's more than there ever was for Tyler, isn't there, though? They managed to shove in a lot of random facts for Wendell into 3 episodes: boxing, hockey, his old neighborhood, cigarettes, his dad, etc. As for hockey, it CAN'T just be a coincidence. It's a team of FBI people - Wendell couldn't just show up and join (even if the writers didn't put much thought into it). So that means he really IS becoming part of the team, which makes me ridiculously happy ( ... )

They have packed many details about Wendell into canon, yes. It's what makes him feel so much more *real* than the other grad assistants, I think, who are mostly caricatures. But it's limited enough to interject a little fanon (like the Boston thing, and the goofy singing thing), and I'm enjoying that process.

I have not encountered any crazy in CM fandom the way I did in CSI. Everyone's been welcoming and awesome, I am just scared of active fandoms because I know I don't play well with others. I've gotten a lot better, so here's hoping I won't spazz at any point and alienate anyone the way I did with CSI.

Exactly. He's got a personality and background behind him, but there's room for all the fun stuff too. Making up bits and pieces to round him out more and make him into something even more lovable, yes? I haven't written in years, but he's making me wish I could find my writing mojo again, as he and Hodgins are really that adorable together.

That's good on the lack of crazies in CM fandom. I'm sure you'll be fine. Plus I don't think a lot of what happened in CSI was your fault - I never thought you were being spazzy or alienating.

Well thanks, but you are one of my best friends in the world, so you are probably a little biased ;)

Anyway, yes! Wendell/Hodgins is cute enough to suck in anyone who gets too close to their orbit. I love that about them. It's fannish joy without all the anxiety, and man, I have missed that.

It's a good show! And it has a lovely het pairing as well (Booth/Bones). It's the wrong Deschanel for your husband, but we can't have everything :)

How many seasons of Bones have there been? Because I just got the first CM disc from Netflix. Do you remember which season of CM we watched this summer? I mean, it was just like three eps, but I'm wondering if I should even bother watching this.

We watched season one CM, I believe. If you skip the first disc you'll only miss one episode, I think. Not positive, but I'm pretty sure.

Bones is on season four right now, so same deal as CM, now that I think about it.
