This is mostly for my benefit, but since I was making screencaps anyway I figured there might be a few people out there who haven't seen the movie and would like some visual aids of the characters in my Harlan/Marcus series.

( Further to the screencaps, cut for the disinterested. There's also some meta I wasn't really planning for in here. Meta about Brotherhood II. Man, I need to get a life. )

*Ooooooh's at the screencaps* I agree on your thoughts on Marcus, and well, all of them really. You wanna whap him for going off with Harlan when he most likely knew they were fucking with him, but they were showing him some kind of attention (Harlan specifically) and part of him probably knew he was in for getting screwed over, but getting just a smidgen of time and attention off Harlan was likely worth it. It's also probably part of why he trusted Luc so badly, bit of hero worship cause the guy saved his ass (literally) and maybe the transition helped because he wanted to show everyone, especially Harlan and friends, that he wasn't some wash out who'd forever let them walk over him.

...And Marcus is to cute for his own damn good.

Exactly. You just want to smack him upside the head for being so damn needy, but then again he's just really adorable about it so you want to cuddle him instead. He transfers his little crush immediately from Harlan to Luc as soon as Luc pays him any kind of attention, and then he spends the rest of the movie being jealous of Jon because Luc likes him best.

So it follows that once Luc's gone he'd be right back to lusting after Harlan, but there's all this 'oh my God what the fuck did we do' there as well and that's gotta suck, especially after he finds out that Harlan kinda likes him too.

Ah, high school. Not that we were killing anybody when I was in school.

Hehe, same here, but yeah, so needy and cute, you can't help but feel sorry for him, even when you want to smack him for being a twit.

I think he'd be pouty that Luc's attention was on Jon, when Marcus introduced them, he'd probably be pissy but you know, that was a little crush, the one he has on Harlan is much bigger, even if though he tries to ignore it.

Exactly, because he's got that whole 'doesn't want to want him but can't help it' thing going on with Harlan. Wanting Luc probably seemed safe at first because Luc comes off as very sexual and put out 'I might want you back' signals, so when he decided he wanted Jon Marcus had to have been pissed. It might have made him feel a little better if he ever found out that he was just a patsy for Luc to get to Jon in the first place. Aside from the whole being used thing, of course.

Ha! No, Van Owen was all wishy-washy from the start. I think that was supposed to show that he had more will-power than the other two, but it just made me want more of everyone else, because he annoyed me.

It's true. And for me the movie's totally about Marcus, so whenever Van Owen gets in the shot I just get annoyed and try to push him out of the way. Then I remember it's, you know, a movie, and I'm a big loser.

Ooh, I like your theory about Marcus. I can totally see him trying to fit in and be cool by hanging out with the delinquents (and I'm sure smoking pisses off his parents, which is just a fringe benefit) and ending up taking the fall for some dumb-ass prank. Since he was a first-time offender I bet his dad managed to work a deal where he went away to prep school rather than going to juvie, and that was even more rejection from his parents because mostly they were just trying to save face with their rich friends ( ... )

You know what my opinion is of Van Owen's stunning opening lines? Complete crap. Jon is such a self-absorbed cunt that he couldn't possibly know anything at all about who his friends really are. I, honestly, wouldn't even worry about that shit, man. It's crap. It's like... the way I always try to do things is to just really get into the mind of the person telling the story. Because, you know, everything is tilted to their point of view. I mean, you know when they go up and get Trini smashed? Where do Marcus and Matt go? What exactly are they doing while Jon and Luc are eyefucking and raping that poor girl? We have no idea. Why? Because the story is all about retardo there and he is all about himself. Especially in that moment because he was finally getting a leg over. Bah. Whatever, don't worry, you are doing just fine with Marcus. What you said about him shoplifting for attention? Totally. I can see him doing that or mouthing off to teachers or anything easy like that but, come on, Marcus is not some fucking felon. That's just bad ( ... )

All of which would totally work except that Marcus himself mentions his parents shipping him off to boarding school so he wouldn't have to go to juvie. It's in the pool scene right before they all lick Luc. But still, the shoplifting thing totally works with that, because while Marcus is not at all the badass he wishes he were, he plays up his rep as one to make himself seem cooler. And there's also foggynite's theory about Marcus playing patsy for a group of actual badasses, which I quite like. He's such a follower that it would be easy to make him take the fall.

As for the layout, I really don't have any specific ideas. You always come up with the coolest shit so I'm just going to let you do what you want to do and I know I'll love it. Although if you want to include lyrics, the song that always reminds me of Harlan (and by extension, Marcus, since he's a wannabe) is Smash by The Offspring. But if you don't want to use them/they don't work, that's totally cool. It doesn't matter to me either way, it's just a song I've been thinking ( ... )

Oh, see, you'll have to excuse me. They were all naked and being homoerotic together. I wasn't exactly paying attention to what they were saying. Bad fangirl = me. But, yeah, that theory is great. I can totally see him being like that and falling in with people like that. Poor little shit. He's got pretty bad taste in friends. ::shakes head::

heh. Harlan/Marcus soundtrack would be the best thing since sliced bread. That song is really good. There's one line at least that I really think I may end up using. Now I just have to get it finished. Ooh, excitement.

Yeah! Thankies for posting pics, I have yet to see this movie and I wanted to read your fics. So at least I know what they look like which helps, quite a bit. ^_^
