more horrorslash-y screencaps

This is mostly for my benefit, but since I was making screencaps anyway I figured there might be a few people out there who haven't seen the movie and would like some visual aids of the characters in my Harlan/Marcus series.

Further to the screencaps, cut for the disinterested. There's also some meta I wasn't really planning for in here. Meta about Brotherhood II. Man, I need to get a life. )

meta, brotherhood

Ooh, I like your theory about Marcus. I can totally see him trying to fit in and be cool by hanging out with the delinquents (and I'm sure smoking pisses off his parents, which is just a fringe benefit) and ending up taking the fall for some dumb-ass prank. Since he was a first-time offender I bet his dad managed to work a deal where he went away to prep school rather than going to juvie, and that was even more rejection from his parents because mostly they were just trying to save face with their rich friends.

Poor, neglected Marcus. And then when he gets to his new school he goes and falls for the big man on campus only to get tortured by him. And I definitely think Harlan's got a mean streak -- or maybe just an 'I don't give a fuck' streak -- but whenever I watch that locker room scene it always plays to me as Harlan sort of pushing Marcus to see how much he'll take.

This is totally my shipper's vision coming out, but to me it seems like there is some genuine interest there, and he's sizing Marcus up to see if he's worthy of Harlan's interest. Like if he isn't a complete pussy about it Harlan won't be taking a major step down to let Marcus hang out with him, and that's why their relationship works post-movie, because thanks to Luc, Marcus and his friends are suddenly a lot cooler than they were before Luc showed up.

And Marcus is definitely the one who's looking to move up on the social ladder -- Jon only wants to move up to be worthy of Mary, and Matt just doesn't give a damn period. He's oblivious to social status, at least if we can take him at his word. Marcus, on the other hand, practically salivates at the prospect of Harlan treating him like he's cool, and he'd dump his friends in a second to be part of that.
