{Food for Thought}

A thought just hit me as I was drawing this morning, so I wanted to pose the question to the rest of my flist.

Do you find it easier to portray a female or male character in your writing/art/comics/stories?

I know of some friends who say they find it easier to write from a male's perspective rather than a female's, even if they're female. Vice Versa ( Read more... )

I find it easier to portray a male to a female audience - I think the audience makes a big difference. The female perception of a 'guy' is different than how males would perceive it. >: I dunno.

Yeah that's true, its easier to show what a 'guy' is like to a female audience since we're female ourselves. I always wondered about stuff like shounen manga, naruto/bleach/eyeshield, if that's really how men see their friendship seeing as its drawn by men and has the whole 'friendship/AIBOU' thing going on.

Well, I roleplay, and I find it easier for me to roleplay as a guy. D: I dunno, it's kind of a habit I guess? After roleplaying as a guy for so long I can't roleplay as a girl although I am a girl myself. Does that even makes sense?? @_@;;

As for drawing, I find girls are a lot of fun to draw, but I think I draw guys better than I draw girls. Then again, maybe I just need more practice... o.o;;

Oh I guess that could make sense 8D; Maybe because you're so accustomed to it. I don't know how to properly roleplay a guy unless its a character I truly understand. Simpleton, plotter etc etc.

Could be 8D I notice you draw more guys than girls most of the time XD

Well, I roleplay original characters and especially when roleplaying with someone else, it's quite fun to develop new quirks or habits for the character. So in some sense the character is 'growing'. You just need a basic personality guideline to get started. I must admit it's sometimes difficult to roleplay guys too...;;; I'm not too hardcore actually, compared with some other people I know...;;

I can't help it that people want me to draw guys rather than girls!! T^T;; But lately I got 2 requests to draw girls... so... we'll see XDD

Females for me. It's pretty difficult to get into the mindset of a guy- maybe it's because I have a preconceived notion that a guy's mind process works differently than girls? I dunno.

Yeah I have that notion too though my view of it its more that I find it harder to think how a guy would REACT to a situation, rather than just what they're thinking about. Usually what is said and reaction to it baffles me completely because I can't base anything off it unless I know someone of similar nature.

I ain't sure about the gender, but I surely find it easier to portray a troubled character with many issues about him/herself. >_o idk

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I don't write/draw/etc about females very much but I don't really have problems with the GENDER so to say... Unless I sit down and plan out a character, though, I find that there is a set of stereotypes/types of people that I tend to end up drawing/writing about, with similar personality types or w/e D:

Yeah I think most of us do that. Or we'd usually settle with stereotypes we're familiar with. I find the hardest males to write about are the males that I am not exposed to IRL. Men who don't mingle in my own social circles at times are harder to understand and put down in paper and writing.
