Queues

“The Doctor doesn't stand in queues,” that's one of his rules. Standing all lined up, one person after the other, waiting either to buy something or to get inside somewhere... it's a tremendous waste of time in his eyes. Too bad his companion begs to differ.

“Don't even think about using the psychic paper, Doctor,” Rose says, her eyes blazing in such a threatening way that his hand backs out of his pocket on its own accord.

“Why not?” he asks despite the fear settling in the pit of his stomach. There is just something horrifying about angry Tyler women. “You've never had a problem with it before.”

“Well, that's 'cause we wouldn't have gotten in otherwise. This time we've got tickets-” She holds them up to his eyes. “-and even booked seats. There's no reason for you to use it.”

“No reason?” he asks, motioning to the long line of people standing before them. “It can take ages until we get in! Why not just use it?”

“'Cause that would be rude,” Rose returned and he just opened his mouth to say he doesn't have a problem at all with being rude, when her hand suddenly finds his. He stills completely as she leans against him, her head resting on his shoulder, fingers gripping the fabric of his jacket, a quiet sigh escaping her lips. “And it's not that bad, yeah?” she whispers, her words slightly muffled by her cheek pressing against his shoulder.

While Rose's body warms him up, his hearts racing at the nearness of this brilliant young woman, the Doctor contemplates his rules.

Absolute nothing is a waste of time with Rose Tyler by his side.
