A Director Prepares, by Anne Bogart.

If you're a practicing director, and you haven't read this yet, pick it up.  It's totally worth your time.

T.S. Eliot suggests that an artist's work should be judged not by its novelty or newness, but rather ny how the artist handles the tradition he or she inherits.

I think I own this book--er, have for at least 4 years--but never read it. Do you think it's worthwhile for an actor to read? I've studied Viewpoints and obviously I come from a physical theatre background.

I always think it's smart for artists to cross-pollinate, so in that case, I would say yes. there are some useful ideas for actors in it, and it's a quick read.

However, it's definitely director focused.
