A Director Prepares, by Anne Bogart.
If you're a practicing director, and you haven't read this yet, pick it up. It's totally worth your time.
T.S. Eliot suggests that an artist's work should be judged not by its novelty or newness, but rather ny how the artist handles the tradition he or she inherits.
If your work is too controlled, it has no life. If it is too chaotic, no one can see or hear it.
Real power is the removal of resistance from your path.
Work with what you have right now. Work with the people around you right now. What you do now, what you make of your present circumstances will determine the quality and scope of your future endeavours. At the same time, be patient.
