Someone from AT&T was working ont he phone lines for the nail salon next door and came in to our store wondering if he could get into the center's basement from here. We told him that we're not even sure the place HAS a basement, much less one with an entrance under or in our store. Aren't concrete slabs wonderful? Absolutely the most obnoxious things ever.....However necessary they may be.
Yeah... I've learned an important lesson from this, though: if I ever build a house with a slab foundation, I'm going to make absolutely certain that NOTHING goes further under it than a few feet from the edge. I don't care if it costs 20% more to run the septic lines to the edge of the house before dropping them through the foundation, it'll save money in the long run.
...though I have to wonder who thought running phone lines through the foundation was a good idea, in your case. At least with septic, it's relatively standard....
But then, sometimes slab seems like a good idea. Take my mobile home, for example. One would think that, in a place prone to heavy rainfall and mudslides, it would be a good idea to put the house on slab. But no, they put it on dirt. My question is, how many years before the ground slowly washes out from under it?
