Favourite book read in 2014? I'm ashamed to say that I haven't completely read any books so far this year. I used to read several books a week, and now pretty much all I read are fics. However, I just started reading The Maze Runner series the other night and I'm loving it! I suspect I'll get through 1 or 2 of them by the end of the year as we're going my aunt's 2nd house/deer lease for Christmas and it has no internet access, a TV that you can't get anything on unless you want to watch a DVD, and I can't get anything better than 2G on my phone, which is spotty at best. I can never get a word in edgewise with everyone trying to talk at once, so I decided screw it, I'll just sit there and read. :P
Have you ever read a book and had the perfect casting for a character? Yep. I read the first 50 Shades of Grey and thought that Tom Hiddleston would have been a perfect Christian Grey.
Do you prefer series or one-offs? Definitely series! If I really like/love a book, I usually want more. With one-offs, that's all they leave you with... ( ... )

I was going to say I too read The Maze Runner but that's not true. I actually saw the movie was unsatisfied by the ending and then just decided to read The Scorch Trials.

I didn't like them killing [death spoiler] Chuck. Unfortunately Chuck dies in the book as well, in the same way, so it was cannon, but that just about killed me.

I enjoy both reading the books and watching the movies, and seeing the differences between the two. Just from what I've read of the book so far though, there are quite a few differences from the movie. I'm liking most of those differences better than what they did than in the movie, however there are some exceptions. For example, in the book, Newt is described as having long blonde hair down just past his shoulders... personally, I like Newt's casting and appearance in the movie better. In the book, from the beginning the they have a cure for being stung be a Greiver, so the victims as least have a chance for survival and I like that better than the unquestionable death sentence that it was in the movie.

I didn't realize they'd made Maze Runner into a movie, but I have seen the book in the hands of many students at schools I work at. I may very well be checking it out after I finish my Rick Riordan books.

Favourite book read in 2014? A.C.Gaughen - Scarlet #2: Lady Thief
Have you ever read a book and had the perfect casting for a character? Dylan O'Brien and Tyler Hoechlin would be perfect to Hannah Johnson's "Know not why"
Do you prefer series or one-offs? I think both have their advantages. I think it often depends on how long a series lasts. There are a few that should have ended several books ago (House of Night series for example or the Black Dagger Brotherhood books) and then there are some that I just can't get enough of
Is there a book character you think you are similar too? Probably Samwell Tarly from A Song of Ice and Fire
Book you've been disappointed with this year? While I liked the new Bloodlins book "Silver Shadows, I kind of expected more
Do you read fic, if so do you have a favourite? I don't really read a lot of fanfics. Mostly Sterek fics
A book you wish more people would read? Marion Zimmer Bradley - The Catch Trap

Recommend a book for future book clubs Hannah Johnson - Know not why

I can't not finish books once I start reading them but I honestly wish I did with The Catch Trap. I couldn't wait for the book to be over. :/

Favourite book read in 2014? I haven't read many books this year, sadly, but I recently read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe which was absolutely amazing. I read it all in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. As for non-fiction, Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? was hilarious.
Have you ever read a book and had the perfect casting for a character? Most of the time when I'm reading I never imagine exact details? Like I'll see the back of their head or the side of their face but never any exact details? lol. I do remember thinking Lyndsy Fonseca would have made the perfect Rose in Vampire Academy though!
Do you prefer series or one-offs? Ooh, it depends! I enjoy series, especially when there's a lot of foreshadowing and character development and world building. But then there are some books like Before I Fall and 13 Reasons Why that really only work as one-offs.
Is there a book character you think you are similar too? I think I'm a mixture of all of the protagonists in Sarah Dessen's ( ... )

I really can't imagine 13 Reasons Why as anything more than a one-off. I mean, I could imagine a short-story, to see where the main character is years later and how the suicide affected him later, but nothing majorly huge? For some reason, I cannot remember names

Exactly! I just really don't see how prolonging Hannah (and Clay? I think that was his name lmao)'s story would benefit the plot in any way. Honestly, I think it would cheapen it, almost? Make it have less of an impact, for sure.

I feel the same about John Green's books, I loved The Fault In Our Stars but disliked all the others. Lyndsy Fonesca is an interesting choice for Rose. I like the books but the movie was so disappointing. Personally, the only casting I liked in the movie was for Christian.

Favourite book read in 2014? I had to go to Goodreads to try to remember what I read this year. It wasn't even that many books... my memory is so terrible. Anyway - Alison Arngrim's Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is a great memoir, especially if you liked Little House On The Prairie growing up, which I did. She played Nellie Oleson. The book is really interesting and hilarious to boot. I also just finished reading a novel I won from Goodreads called Migratory Animals by Mary Helen Specht. It comes out officially in January, and I really enjoyed it.
Have you ever read a book and had the perfect casting for a character? I cast Michael Young, the protagonist from Stephen Fry's Making History, using Andrew Garfield (for RP purposes), and I think that was a perfect choice. Also casting Anthony Stewart Head as James Dunworthy from Connie Willis' Oxford Time Travel series. Benedict Cumberbatch as Lucifer Box in Mark Gatiss' Lucifer Box trilogy, though that's pretty popular fancasting for the role, particularly in The Vesuvius Club.

I loved the Little House books growing up, so I'll definitely have to check out Confessions of a Prairie Bitch. Thanks! Oh, and did you see the new annotated autobiography that came out last month? I haven't read it yet, but I think it'll be interesting to see what parts of the original books came from Laura, and what parts from Rose.

Favourite book read in 2014? I don't have ONE favorite book I've read this year. I have three faves that I really enjoyed. It's Nora Roberts' The Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy: Dark Witch, Shadow Spell, and Blood Magick. It's about a brother-sister duo of witches (Connor and Branna O'Dwyer) that are preparing to fight a centuries old evil baddie (Cabhan) that wants to drain them of their power. They get help in the forms of two more witches, one who is their cousin (Iona Sheehan) and another who's a life-long friend (Finbar Burke). And to round it out, there's another set of life-long friends that get involved too (Boyle McGrath and Meara Quinn). There's also animal familiars in the form of horses, hawks, and hounds.
Have you ever read a book and had the perfect casting for a character? YES!! All through reading Stephen King's The Dark Tower series I saw Viggo Mortensen as Roland.
Do you prefer series or one-offs? I like both; but I seem to like Nora Roberts series of books more that her single volume books.
Is there a book ( ... )

Have you read Nora Robert's The Witness or the Search? They're two of my favorites of hers

I think I've read The Search.(?) I ran to the library yesterday and grabbed them both. The blurb on the book flap for The Search is familiar, but I think I read some of her books one after the other; too fast to keep the plot/characters straight in my mind. Both sound very intriguing, so I'm going to settle in and read them both!

haha I've had that problem. That's why I joined Goodreads, so I could keep track of which books I've read.

I have both books on audio and I think they're good audio books :)
