Her brother couldn't make it out for a movie tonight, but they had made plans for the following evening. An excitement she'd thought died rose up again, and she felt honestly giddy about seeing Jounouchi again. With any luck, he would behave himself.
But that still left her with nothing to do on her actual birthday. So why bother getting dressed? It was far more comfortable to be in her pajamas, after all. However, it led to some discomfort when she heard a knock on her door and, confused, she padded out of her room to answer it.
To come face to face with Thief King. How'd he get in?
"Hi," she said after a moment, clearly startled.

She pushed that from her mind. It wasn't worth dwelling on, especially now.
"Thank you," she said happily as she shifted her weight, then opened the box. Lifting the necklace out, she held it up to the light, her eyes growing huge.
It was gorgeous, and clearly expensive. And how had he known she loved emeralds? Unless it had been a lucky guess, but she preferred to believe he'd just known.
"Thank you!" she said again, this time much more emphatically, and she threw her arms around him to give him a tight hug.

He watched as she examined the necklace, a confident grin on his lips. It was fairly obvious that he'd picked something she liked (though it had been a lucky guess -- he'd just picked something he thought would compliment her.)
He was surprised by the force behind her hug, though he returned it, laughing at her, resting his chin on the top of her head for a moment. "I'm glad you like it," he replied.
