It was probably a miracle that he'd even remembered Shizuka's birthday at all. She'd mentioned it in her journal a while ago (week or two? whatever, didn't matter) and told him the exact date, so he'd gone out and got her something nice, a gold and emerald necklace. While he hadn't exactly obtained it legally, he hoped she wouldn't ask. If anything, she wouldn't be a bitch like Anzu and toss it in the fucking closet. (He'd actually taken some of... okay, all of, that back and sold it.)
Nonetheless, here he was, at her apartment, knocking on the door, waiting for a response. He wasn't even sure she'd be home, given that it was her birthday. Two seconds in, he was tired if knocking, so he picked the lock and let himself inside.
Well, if she was home, he'd probably scare her to death. But whatever, surprise birthday parties existed. He could just claim that his visit was a modified version of that.
