When you're on the Mask Layer. Click the square bit after the "Chain link" thing. Then Fill it in black.

You lost me here
"You'll notice that the only colours are black and white. Well, flood fill your Mask layer with black. Now, using a soft edge brush, with the color white. Just color in her lips. You'll notice the red shows up again. Now, she has bright red lips."

Beautiful Icon though!

You have to click the Masked part of the layer. There's only grayscale when you click on the masked part.
Just fill it all in black.
