One Silly Thing, and One Serious Thing--

1. I would like to thank god and all the little fishes for whomever decided to make Eric bisexual on True Blood. (And most of the other vamps too.) Yes. Yes, indeedy. I don't even care that he's mostly used it for his own personal gain so far. Isn't that why he does everything? ^_^

2. I swear, the Canadian Conservatives make me want to tear my ( Read more... )

I never, ever understand why men think they have the right to pass laws about what women can or cannot do with their bodies. Seriously. Whenever they do that I wonder what they would say if women try to pass a law about compulsory vasectomies if they are assholes. Or something.

(My country is a one-party system as far as things go, and sometimes I'm really, really happy about that.)

I know, eh? Grrr. That's what I'd love to know: how would they like it if a bunch of women legislated what they could and couldn't do to their bodies?

Well, hopefully the motion won't pass, and this can all fade back into obscurity. I know they'll have an uphill battle on their hands if it does pass, because there are few things Canadians hate more than reopening debates most people consider closed.

Completely unrelated to this conversation, but everything to do with your previous entry on the Hobbit:

As Jackson related, Del Toro designed a lot of the Hobbit, “and a lot of his designs are very Guillermo... It was very much stuff you would recognize from Pan’s Labyrinth or Hellboy. It was his artistic vision and I couldn’t make that movie. I looked at his designs and I said the only person who can make a Guillermo Del Toro movie is Guillermo. I redesigned the film pretty much. Some of Guillermo’s DNA is in there - there were some things that he did that I thought were pretty cool and I’ve taken bits of pieces of his stuff - kind of altering it and changing it as I saw it. But the film was largely redesigned.” (from here)

There you go. One fear put to rest. 8D

Sounds like Canada is going the same route as us Yanks are. The Conservative Christians are working at theocratizing the continent (or at least the English-speaking portion of it, as the Spanish-speaking part has never allowed abortion to my knowledge.)

What is needed is women to become active as a bloc and vote these misogynists out of office. The sad part is that so much else far more important gets ignored while these men play gender/sex politics. They want us barefoot, pregnant, and silent.

this is a ploy by the Conservatives to draw focus from actual real issues that should be debated and given more focus

This. They could be debating and debating and debating. Does life start at 2 cells? 64 cells? 100,000 cells? When the tail falls off disappears?

I sincerely hope this motion will not pass.
