First, let me thank those of you who posted such thoughtful, intelligent comments last week. I hate that I couldn’t jump in there with you. I love that you did it without me.
Ok, said it was only two comments, but actually...mangacat201November 8 2020, 15:04:50 UTC
Alright, *cracks knuckles* so what bothers me most about this last leg of the journey, is, tbh - pace. I know this is only the writer's fault up to a certain point (it is entirely their fault though) but as much as I understand gathering the most encompassing and towering forces of the universe to oppose the Winchesters in their final battle for glory looks like the way to go for a dramatic, high stakes finish, with the boys prevailing in some true and tried Hail Mary Winchester fashion, BUT... it is also gathering the most encompassing and towering, ALLMIGHTY forces of the universe and then... putting them in idle for a season. Cause the pace they're doing it is screwing up my sense of urgency like a bad b**** mofo (and I have spend the last three weeks watching and then rewatching the Untamed, where in true Asian equilibrium they all but stop to serve tea in the middle of a fucking battle for the known world and I should be all trained up I SHOULD, but they have tension in their long lingering looks for barely emoting and they surf

Ok, but this is the last one, I think. mangacat201November 8 2020, 15:05:11 UTC
But, Cat, what about the last five minutes then, I hear you asking, what did you think abou that? - and you'd be right and I have to say, I'm utterly and irrevocably flabbergasted at myself. Cause, I don't ship Destiel, but I don't hate Destiel. I don't see it, like at all, for myself, but I see what other people see and I think that's alright. The sandbox is vast and everyone should get to play in the corner they like best (or different corners, visiting from time to time) and sometimes canon gives us what we want and sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes creators try to walk the tightrope to have it all the ways, which is the most difficult path of all and almost never works out entirely. I appreciate the effort, the only requirement I have that no one bashes others for not concurring with their own opinion (and I know some parts of fandom are better at this than others, but, I'll be trying to put it in completely subjective terms indiviual to me now). So... that scene

See, I would have loved that, but it wasn't written/acted well enough for me to get it. To me it just looked some cheesy pandering to a noisy, demanding minority of fans. (Not shippers in general, but the ones who insist on harassing the cast/writers about making it canon). The larger picture is what they needed, and I don't feel like I got it.

I absolutely understand where you're coming from, and I'm also absolutely certain that I'm hypnotizing myself into believing what I wrote via overanalysis just to escape the stark naked second hand embarrassment at the actual writing. Let's call it Head-Ret-Canon, shall we? And yes bigger picture is the clue. I'm currently reading the non-fiction publication 'The Heroine's Journey' by Gail Carrier (a must read for any writing meta fan) and she also references theme and message and how important they are (and the writer's awareness and conscious application of them) for the narrative to work. I feel like the writers on SPN have been bogged down in the logistics of how to wrap up the show to the point of losing sight of giving meaning to the ending. Sigh. Let's hope the boys get some passable material to act the he'll out of that last leg and bring this home ×wibbles×
Hey! I watched the episode! I've been watching most of this season, even if my brain gets broken weekly. And shit, I wrote a long, involved response to your most excellent review, hit the wrong button, and lost it. It's almost 1 AM so I'm too tired to write it all again. But I shall respond tomorrow, because I have thoughts.
Okay. First of all, wtf with everybody disappearing? When Chuck first showed up, he proceeded to Thanos a whole bunch of people, including Becky, who had a family. I honestly didn't care when everybody poofed, although I was sorry about Donna. The Eileen subplot wasn't more than mentioned so I didn't care about that, either. The first child disappearing was awful, but then when everyone else poofed it was like, "okay, they're all gonna poof. Whatever

I hereby dispel every other idea and declare that to be a completely platonic "I love you".

I realize that's not super thoughtful but I haven't been able to gather my entire reaction yet. I just need to believe it was a platonic I love you.
I don't mind Destiel in fanfic, I guess, but that's fanfic. I write a ton of Wincest but I don't want anyone to put it in the show.
Next week probably will be Jack's week. I'm totally with you in that he's not one of them. I adore him as a character, but. It's not the same. He doesn't get to slide in at season 13 and save the world.
> So Jack's point of no return wasn't actually a point of no return after all. It's kinda retconny, but not really? I've decided it's logical and I approve
