First, let me thank those of you who posted such thoughtful, intelligent comments last week. I hate that I couldn’t jump in there with you. I love that you did it without me.

I almost threw up at the Destiel. Not out of homophobia or because I have a problem with Destiel shippers, but because the pandering was sickening. Did Cas really say the one thing he wanted most was the thing he couldn't have? Where did that come from?! Of course I will watch the last 2 episodes, but I've got to say, the past 4 or 5 seasons have brought me very little joy.

I know, right? Are the writers trying to convince *us* that Dean is the bestest, most loving person ever?

I think the Jack-focus is a commentary on how parenthood changes a person for better or worse.

Destiel is not canon, but Castiel being in love with Dean is, and honestly? That makes sense for his character. Also, I think Bobo being gay plays into it. Castiel's happiness comes not from getting his man, but coming out of the closet and accepting his true self. It's all about identity.

But Cas isn't a man. There's no closet for him to come out of.

I had a pretty similar experience to yours while watching *that scene*, I have to say (including the husband, though mine is on a first-name basis with Jensen and is minimally aware that some people want them to kiss LOL).

Always and forever love your reactions!

There should be some kind of medal for services to fandom above and beyond the call of duty.

What meus_venator said on another post:

I think it could have worked if it have been from the point of view that Sam and Dean had made Castiel understand what it was to be FAMILY, and his greatest joy after all his millieu of watching and not interacting with man, was now being in the right place to be able to sacrifice himself to save his family, his brothers in arms. I think there could have been a lot of very earnest emotions there.I wish they would have gone this way ( ... )

YES. If Cas had gushed about his love for humanity, and how he was on the path to end it back in s4 and now his last act will be to save it, and it's all because of these two brothers? That would have made sense.

And yes, Dean, ANSWER YOUR PHONE.

Phewwww... here I am, late to the party again this week (very late) becasue... reasons. Mainly, I wasn't in a place the past two days to deal, especially after seeing the episode was called DESPAIR. So... this had to wait and I'm glad I did that.
OK, diving in to a point. I read all the comments on here and there were some pretty much more elaborate explanations of my thoughts than I could manage right now, so I'll try and concentrate on what my actual beef was with this episode (and in truth, probably the rest of the finale) in a way I haven't seen articulated yet.
Before I go off, though, here's a present for you caranfindel, in case you haven't seen it yet. I thought of you the moment I did and I think no one could appreciate this level of nerdery more:
OK.... comment was too long again, will break it up in two parts again ( ... )
