The man who had hailed her - she would see him, for she was so curious - had jerked back when he touched her hair, collapsing to the ground, shaking violently until he stilled. She called, begged him to rise, her words became sobs, but it was the stillness of death.

When Rapunzel’s daily visitor came, informing her that the body would be removed, all Rapunzel saw, through red-rimmed, sore eyes, were the gloves she had never thought to question before.
