Word derivations I didn't know...

...until about 5 minutes ago. "Mayhem" and "maim" have the same root, with mayhem originally meaning wilfully injuring someone. Weird.

Gah, yes, sorry. I had it written out properly, but then LJ's web client lost my post, so I retyped it again in a hurry. Poo. (I mis-spelt it as "main" originally too.)
