exactly. i mean i look around the store. i'm impressed, clearly, with the knowledgeable staff, and aspire to be one of them. apparently, despite my cookie-cutter "i'm a team player" answers, i set off red flags and am some sort of card carrying psychopath. do they think that NOT giving me the job is going to alleviate these tendencies?

Good luck. Sophmore year, I had the same problem. I ended up coming home in July to work cherries. I hope the same fate does not befall you.
