I had two job prospects for the summer, both seemed highly promising. My dad's close personal friend assured me a summer job at the airport, for his company. I applied, and filled out the 5 pages of background check, the last 5 years of my life, all with confirmable sources. I was told yesterday that I could interview this week, all I had to do was stop by their office anytime between 9 and 5 and sit down with one of the managers there. I talked to the guy last night and he said to just go tommorrow. I stopped by at 3 today and the secretary had absolutely no idea who I was or what I was doing there. Great.
I excused myself from the lobby in panic mode and called my dad. What is going on? He tells me to call the guy. I call him, he says he gave this secretary the application, and everything should be squared away. I go back inside, the secretary does not know who this man is. I call him back, put them on the phone with each other. She says okay, she will keep my application and call me back when they have an opening. So basically no? What the fuck? I thought I was interviewing to be hired, not fucking dicked around for another two weeks.
I make the drive back to Ann Arbor and swing by some places. You can use this for your own personal reference if you want to know where you aren't going to find a job this summer. Barnes & Noble, not hiring. Borders, not hiring. GameStop, not hiring (except on Ellsworth and Carpenter -- but I didn't know how to get there offhand, so I might stop there tommorrow).
I went to Best Buy, because I had filled out their enormous online application a week ago. I got a meeting with a manager, and he went thru the database and opened my application and told me I hadn't passed the screening process. What in the motherfuck?!? How can I not be qualified to work at Best Buy? ALL I FUCKING DO IS GAMES, MUSIC, MOVIES, ALL THAT KIND OF SHIT THEY HAVE IN THEIR STORE.
God I'm so pissed. I don't even know where to begin on this one. Rent is due in less than 3 weeks though.
