Oh, the ever shifting sands of Sherlock's sexuality...
One the one hand, news is out that Lucy Liu has been cast to play the first female Watson opposite Jonny Lee Miller's modern day Sherlock Holmes for CBS, Elementary: Read more... )
Elementary just gets worse and worse! Watson as a woman. Give over! How to take a classic piece of literature and burn the heart right out of it, and destroy its integrity. Not at all amused!
But yes, LOVE the trailers! I had not seen them before.
You are so well informed! Interesting to read about these previous female Watsons, including the fact that the second was intended as a pilot for a potential television series that didn't get made. Probably that particular premise was better served by a one-off film. I'm guessing that in both of these versions there is a certain 'pairing off' at the end (although in the first case not between the young relative of original Watson and the cryogenically preserved Holmes, thank goodness!) that really concludes things too roundly for any follow-up.
Presumably Lucy Liu's Watson will not be allowed to fall for her Holmes (or visa versa) until the series has run its course. At least I hope not! And yes she can certainly do cool action under pressure, probably more so than JLM, so that fits! :-))) I really hope this CBS team comes up with a cracking good programme all round.
Those Korean trailers are wonderful, I thought they were spoofs first off! Oh, and somebody mentioned They Might Be Giants! I'd forgotten that film, I saw it at the flicks as part of a rather strange George C Scott thing I had many years ago! I seem to recall it was rather odd but enjoyable.
They Might Be Giants certainly appeals to me more than the one with a cryogenically preserved Holmes. Sadly it looks as though the film has never been released on dvd in this country. You were lucky to see it. :-)
