Wild speculations, or The Regent made me do it

Apr 26, 2011 01:24

Hi guys. New CP fan and community member here.
While still dazed, on my first 24h with no new chapter and reading entries here like an addict, I'm trying to think of possible plot twists and outcomes.
Spoilers for ch. 25. Also, fangirl imagination run amok. Read at your own risk. )

Good stuff! I think it's going to be something like that. Maybe the Regent is just throwing them together, assuming something bad will happen, and then being poised to capitalize on whatever happens power-wise and politically.

You just summed up in one period my TL;DR post XD
I'm glad I won't need the dunk, it's cold here.

he either has plans to invade Akielos or simply doesn't want a constant threat. So, he helps Kastor to get rid of his King and the legitimate heir, knowing that he'll have a hard time maintaining the power.

I have previously speculated on the Regent's involvement with bornof_sorrow and my ideas ran along similar lines to yours with one exception: I am not 100% convinced the Regent does know who Damen is because I cannot conceive that such a long term strategist would let Damen out of his sight and leave things to chance.

I do think the Regent was behind the betrayal during the peace talks at Arles.

Sorry, I obviously missed the thread. If you link to it, I'll edit my post accordingly.

I'm glad my speculations are not too far fetched.

In freece 's fiction I'm not 100% convinced about anything. But if the Regent-is-involved line of thinking is correct, I can't imagine how he can not know. Until now he is always one step ahead of Laurent. I think he's sadistic and enjoys playing cat and mouse, being too arrogant to consider the possibility of being defeated in the end.
As for leaving things to chance, he didn't exactly leave Damen alone, he has tried to have him killed, just without attracting too much attention on "the slave". And away from the court, in the battlefield, even if someone recognizes Damen, it won't be to his or Laurent's advantage. All hell will break loose and the Regent can be duly surprised and devastated by the further proof of his nephew's

It was done via email I think. We tend to discuss CP all over the place. :)

Me too, although I was right about Aimeric then promptly forgot I'd fingered him for a traitor when I became besotted with the Jord/Aimeric dynamic.

Oh, good, I'm not totally senile yet.
I understand the urge, I already know which friend I'll shamelessly bribe cleverly persuade to read CP so I can fangirl in RL.

That was you? (Everything is blurred together.) I was very impressed that someone had predicted it, especially when I noticed the early date (and then amused that they forgot about it). Yes, she has that effect on readers, I'm rarely that impressed by a story and so invested in its characters.

freece said it in comments somewhere (about Margaret). I'm not sure (my memory isnt great about the chapters things happen in) but I am sure, somewhere, there was a discussion about Margaret and there was a strong inference that her status was not of the top drawer and that she was something of an arriviste. That seems pretty lodged in my brain that holds on to the stuff from freece herself or the actual fic ( ... )

a) Freece has said Margaret is the female Laurent? I didn't read that, but of course I've missed a lot of dialogue from before I started reading. I have of course seen the parallels as far as Damen is concerned; he admitted to liking certain qualities in her, and I wanted to whack him upside the head and point out that those appeared in Laurent as well ( ... )
